The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Finally read the entire thread, taken a few weeks.

@musicday

I have seen in previous posts that you are in South London and I have always been keen to hear what the Tera Player sounds like, any chance of a link up to give it an audition?

I just received a Tera Player this week.. very satisfying sound for my ears combined with Sennheiser IE 400 Pro. took a bit of time to get the WAV files trimmed up and get the gist of the button layout, but this will be staying in my collection and not going anywhere

Good Luck getting a listen and if you do, you will owe @musicday a pint or two :beerchug:

Regardless of the reviews this is something I need to hear for myself. I have ben aware of the Tera Player for quite a few years but didn't buy when £800 as for me at the time this was way above my budget.

I have the Mojo/Poly which I am very happy with but to put my mind at ease need to hear and compare with the Tera Player.

As always the only opinion that really counts is my own when it comes to any purchase I make (too many purchases in the past that have received rave reviews but haven't been to my liking)

I agree my ears have the only say so

did you buy it direct/new from the website or did you pickup a used one?
if you bought it off his website, what was the turn around time?
With the Euro falling lately due to brexit it might be a consideration, especially with germany going negative with rates

I picked up a second hand unit although I would purchase a new one... I just happened on a deal that fit and I wasn't going to pass up

I am impressed with your rubber protective shell, any details you could share?
I found this completely randomly at a shop nearby where I live :https://www.muji.com/sg/products/cmdty/detail/4550002124502
You need to cut only the bottom part of the cup but I recommend you to do it in two steps. Cut first the last 5 mm of it then you can flatten fully the cup to cut to the relevant length with a cutter.
Then you insert by the large side the Tera Player and pull gently side by side until it is fully within. When you pull do not it straight but try to do it step by step by lifting on the side of the Tera Player the rubber tube so that it does not damage it or the player. For the length you can do it shorter than i did if you want. I made some test as I bought a few of these cups and it also works but it protects less the player. If done very carefully I do not see how you can damage the Tera Player with that but given there is always a risk , if you do it it is at your own risk. In the same manner, to remove the case you need to be extra careful and not use any tool that may damage the button interface of the player. Incidentally, the material is stated to be silicone rubber that can resist up to 200 degrees so it should be quite strong.

I just received a Tera Player and after a few hours listen the only comment I have is that I now understand why you would want to own one
How's it compare to your other players?

that's like asking which one of my kids are my favorite. they all bring good and bad to the family

my portable collection is as follows

Tera Player
Mojo/Poly
WM-1A (BA300S inline when needed)
Calyx M
AR-M2
AK300 (BA300S on occasion)

I will say this... the tera player with single dynamic drivers makes my ears happy
Mojo/Poly with Hybrids the same

my ears have taken a beating over the years. 25 with a federal Q siren blaring and a lifetime of concert going so I don't give sound comparisons. I just mention my gear and whether or not I enjoy what I am hearing

Once you had sometime to get used to the Tera Player I will ask for your opinion on TP vs Mojo Poly (my current DAP/DAC of choice)

sure thing. I we’ll say this, both the Tera Player and Mojo/Poly won’t be leaving my collection the same way the Calyx M and AR M2 haven't left either

Yes Mojo/Poly is a keeper for sure

Aiya, I was just in the 852. Needed this for my Raspberry Pi Zero Project...

Should make for a slim custom case... Good find.

No problem, thank you. I may ask him. I just want to make a bigger stock, of everything, cards, headphones, earpads because now everything is cheaper then before :)

I have the Nuansa P1 from Revamp Acoustics which is TJ Styles's version of a Tera.
Hiflight said it sounded pretty close and he had both the Tera and an opamp rolled Nuansa P1.
Unfortunately Revamp is shut down for now.

I tried the Kramer Mod on my KSC75s and didn't really like it but recently I got these YAXI replacement pads from japan and they made a huge difference in the sound quality without having to drill any holes.
I'm amazed at what these $14 earphones with some $7 replacement pads are capable of. Especially with something that produces sound like the Tera and my Nuansa.

I hope to get a Tera one day.
Till then my Nuansa will have to suffice I love the simplicity of it all.
