The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

There is only one shop in Poland with Annies at the moment. Only one.

2479 PLN = 766.85 USD, so unfortunately that's how it usually is. Many headphones are simply unavailable, maybe after few months you can buy them at last, but then you have to pay +25-33% (more or less) to the official US price, sometimes even +50%. And the same story will be with K712.

I called them the Annie, and it just kind of took off. Better than K702 ANV, and easier to type, IMHO.

If AKG can get these to sell for around $300... it's a steal. The Annie to me is comparable to the LCD2 on many fronts (even besting them on certain things), while being a fraction of the price.

Of course, people can overlook them, but that's a grave mistake.

To me: K702 Annie > HD650, HE-400, DT880. The most popular mid-fi cans, FWIS.

MLE,
Do the "Annies" cure the upper midrange smear that plagued the K701?  If so, I'd be willing give them a try.

It's a quite normal price and surrounding the one that AKG's suggested IIRC. Thomann to be honest have quite good price for most of their headphones than even with shipping my local sellers can't compete with and they have large offer of pads, cables and other usually unavailable service parts.
I expect them to drop the "tax for being new" from K712 pretty soon.

Pretty good is an understatement. A brand new K701 currently goes for 155 euros...that's a ridiculous price.

People what is the knock on the k701 phone?I have had mine for at least four years and while they are not the easiest phone to drive they are not as bad as a lot of people put them up to be.You just have to be patient with the extended break in period and finding the right amp and ancillories with that amp.I have three phones including a lcd2 v2 and while the audezes are nice and rarely sound out of sorts they are not exactly the most neutral sounding headphone. The lcd2 v2s also have very serious shortcomings when it comes to soundstage presentation. That is one area where the k701 just destroys the lcd 2 v2.My soundstage presentation from the akg is way better and much more dimensional.I myself have actually returned to using the k701 as my primary headphone of choice. When you do sort out the amplifier issue the 701 does a very reasonable job of replicating the original event.
The akgs have a presence and clarity that many headphone designs lack. The 701s are a bit hungry and do need a amp combination that does ahve a bit of juice.I have two amps that I like with them one beeing the burson ha-160 and the other the ray samuels raptor tube amp.I have had these amps for a while and with time I have found the right combination of tweaks that can make them sing.I am a firm believer in fuse upgrades and have replaced all my stock fuses with hifi tuning supreme fuses.I have also upgraded all my power cords as well.Power cords are somewhat component dependant so you have to try a few before you find the right one that produces the results that float your boat.
One thing for sure the k 701 phone is going to be around in my neighborhood for a long time.

I wholeheartedly agree. K701 is a superb headphone at almost any price and for 155 Euro it is a steal no matter what some people here say. They should first upgrade their amplifiers and then do some serious testing.

It's fashionable to hate the K701. Enough said.

If the K712 is good enough to succeed the K701 (and not just a low end bump), it'll be the first thing on my wish list

Looks like the AKG models are shipping this week, hopefully we will get impressions in by June.  Both headphones are listed on B&H, the K712 is listed at $499 and the K612 is listed at $199 which is more of a price difference than I would have guessed.  Hopefully the K712 is significantly better to account for the $300 difference.
