The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

Yes. In dynamic headphones, when you add or take something away, something else will compensate. If you push back the mids, bass or treble will be stronger, or both. Looking at the graphs, the bass being boosted would mean the mids or the treble are gonna be reduced.

Yeah, it's not that different.  It won't jump out at you (it didn't for me anyways).

The K712 has less treble (or it's less forward).  It also has less upper mid glare and more body to the sound.  For me the latter two were more appreciated than any differences in the treble.

If I want more treble, I can stick the angled pads on it and I still get a less dry and edgy sound than the Q701.  Less upper mids too.  For me, those improve upon the Q701's sound.

I don't see Tdock liking the K712 then.

Guess I'll be fine, then, if they don't jump out at you.

Nope.  One of my first thoughts when comparing was "tdock probably won't like these" .

Damn, why is it my ears are so sensitive to a specific region in mid bass? The X1 is giving me headaches, just like the Q701 and DT990 Pro. Oddly enough, the Annie didn't, though I guess it's because the bass is more linear, even though it's stronger than the Q701. I may just have to get rid of the X1. Looks like if I sell them and desire just a bit more SQ than the MA900, the K712 Pro may make it's way to my hands if it ever goes down to the sub $400 range like the Annie once did.

I'm intrigued by the k712 if only for the deeper cups. As comfy as I find the Annie, it still doesn't replace the Q701's pads in comfort. If the K712's pads are like the Q701 pads but in memory foam... that may make them worthwhile.

That and I'm always curious about headphones I have never heard. K712 is on my hit list, if at least to demo/review.

I expect one of you to send it out to me. :veryevil:

True.

I may have a local buyer if all goes as planned. He has a small studio and is in need of a reference headphone.

*fingers crossed*

I hope you get it to sell. :)

I love the Annie, but curiosity is my kryptonite.

I should put the X1 up for sale.

It's the K702 65th Anniversary Edition. It will sell...

As for the X1... you see what I did with mine lol

I'll sell it with my expensive ass chinese cable. Though I'm keeping Kama's cable. That's too good to give up, and I'm sure I'll come across other headphones with a 3.5mm input (both the HP-800 and Slyr so far).

I forgot Razordog has the $100 off coupon for the $399 and up headphones, and they sell the K712. Hmmmmmm

But damn, no desktop amp for them...

I razor-dogged them for 399.  I bought the Anniversaries for 370 something (used), so not big a difference.  I had to eat some depreciation costs in switching them out, but nothing I can do there.

That's the idea with the pads.

If nothing else, they're worth trying at least.  Once they've settled in a bit I can send you them to demo, if you haven't already heard them somewhere else by then (or caved to your impulses

).

Change, you should probably just buy them though, since your AKG-less ATM
