The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

  so what about an E10?

IMO that's probably a poor match and best suited for a brighter/thinner headphone. Heck, I thought it was even bad with an HD-598 and that's not even that warm.

Can try the E7 or even E5. Used E9 could probably be found for under $75 with a little luck.

EDIT: I know someone will probably disagree...

cool! so is $400 delivered to my door a good price for these in your opinion?

Depends on where you live but yeah that's a decent price. Here in the states you can get them for $384 from razordogaudio.com with coupon code RAZORDOGK712.

I might be able to buy these.. but i'll have to pair it with a cheaper amp for the time being. do these sound terrible through a cheap amp usually?

Have you considered Aune T1? I'm happy with my T1-Anniversary combo (and I've tested Lehmann linear, dacmagic plus, E17 just to mention few). Works fine with 0 gain. There are also +10db and +16db gain options if you need to go really loud.

The K-712 sounds a lot like the Sony MA900, which itself is a fantastic value, one that I consider better for movies and media in general due to being feather light and more noggin’ friendly with respect to it’s simple headband. Liked the MA900? You are going to love the K-712. Despite the MA900 not having the excellent pinpoint accuracy and less clarity all across the board vs the K-712, it still remains, in my opinion, the best all purpose headphone ever produced.

Huzzah. Like this guy already. :)

He's basically stating what I already said with regards to the MA900 being a poor man's alternative to the K702 Annie/K712 Pro, with more comfort and less weight (making it much easier to leave on the head for longer periods of time).

I basically agree with everything the review said, though in place of the K712, is the K702 Anniversary which is more or less gonna be comparable give or take a few things.

I want to get a pair of K712 Pros at some point to at least review them and judge them on their own strengths. I already know I'd love them considering I love both the MA900 and K702 Annies as my two absolute fave pairs of all rounders.

headfonics.com review of the K712 PRO
http://headfonics.com/2013/10/the-k712-pro-by-akg/

I also agree with the review, except X1 is probably better gaming/media headphone (more exciting and fun. I'm not into competitive gaming so can't comment on that). In addition, I don't consider revealing nature to be a flaw. With good properly mastered source the upper mids and highs sound fantastic. They can get slightly fatiguing, especially with rock, but luckily I can ease this issue by tube rolling.

Oh and I should probably note that my opinions are based on the anniversary model.

I certainly have not heard a better all rounder than the Annies, so I'm positive the K712 Pro would be just as favorable to me.

Too bad I'm broke as hell, if not, I'd score the K712 Pro for myself. I do prefer the Annie colors though, but it's not that important.

Nooooo, it's taken over you too, though your name doesn't have an X in it! :D

For $1499... the K812 better be the best everything. Too bad on the leather pads. :p

Yeah, although I'm sure it will help the bass out.

The cups look very deep and the headphone looks extremely open, so I doubt heat will be too much of an issue.  You can see right through the grills to the other side.  It's like the HD800 but with leather pads.

Maybe they have bayonet lock removable pads and you can stick velours on them
