I've been considering some AKG headphones since I love JBL speakers so much. I figure that I may like their sound signature. I'm looking for something to give me a taste of what type of sound this brand has. I was thinking IEMs, and I'm trying not to spend more than $100. If someone could describe their sound sig to me that would be awesome too. As of now I love the new Audio Technica sound, but it isn't as good as my JBL speakers...

I recently bought the K44's, cant say i like em much, too much bass for me. My biggest gripe was how big they were. Is there an akg model that you guys would recommend to someone who likes some treble, balanced and clear sound

very nice for the 80$ I paid. The bass is tight, but what I see on response charts is that the response at 100hz decreases, and continues to go down until 15 hz. The bass is quite nicely textured though, and it feels like it has more reach than the graphs imply. They do have slightly boosted bass which I quite enjoy. Since you seem to like classic ones, go look into the k240 sextet. They are 600 ohm, and are a little better built than the new ones. The sextet was made back in the 70's, and sell for 70-90$ on amazon right now. The new k240s's are better for portable use being 55 ohms and rated at 91 db/mW and have a bit more of a shiny modern feel on the logo.

The K240DF is still one of my favorite headphones.  Back when I owned the HD800 I was struck by how similar the two headphones sounded.  Its really a fantastic, unbiased headphone to keep as a reference for evaluations.  Not too hard to find used ones on ebay.

For anyone using the newest K240 Studio, get a pair of Shure SRH840 pads:

Then cut out the built-in foam backing on the SRH840 pads. Install the pads along with the stock foam disc that comes with the K240. It's the best pad combo I've yet to try with the K240. Extremely neutral and transparent. I can't find fault with this setup to be honest. Plus, comfort is increased by 100%. I've been enjoying mine a lot, and I have much more expensive headphones that I could be listening to.
