If I understand it correctly, it's now cheaper to upgrade to the new design then the one yesterday

But he needs to give abit more info about the specs.

Anyone who has upgraged at yesterday's price, he will refund the difference!

Will these changes be final, or can we expect to see continual 3.x releases?

Make his hand full with something else (Supermini3, DAC, MP3, etc)

If Xin keeps going at his pace I'm going to add a Gilmore Lite to the inventory. Headfi is like a casino, the longer you stay here the more $$$ you drop. I'm going after all the 'heavy hitters" and getting the hell out of this place once and for all. Either way my ears is like 'magic' with my SR-71 right now. Can't wait for the SM V3. So many fones, so many amps, so little time...I started off with a Pocket Amp 2 V2, KSC-35 and a PortaPro a few weeks ago...

I've got to hand it to Xin for his sincere attempts at doing the best for his customers.

From what I understand, the ground channel opamp is not socketed any longer (so you can't change it) ... Is that correct?

from what I was reading, this is correct. Actually, it appears as though it won't have a ground channel opamp anymore:

Quote:

Alanz, yes, no more opamp in the ground channel. The default opamps will still be NE5534. Sorry, I have not got enough time to update thoroughly the page. I'll correct any errors as soon as I get home today.

And back up to 4000uf caps unless you get buffer sockets

So this seems like a big step BACKWARDS ... unless I'm missing something?

I'm sure he has something up his sleeves, but from what I've been reading, a ground channel opamp really doesn't do anything. Perhaps an electrical person can help out here, but I was told that the only real reason to have it in there was to prevent a ground loop in the ground channel.

Basically, it now has an unique isolated ground channel other than a typical 3-channel architecture like the PPA. The result is lower noise, wider and deeper sound stage, deeper bass, more stable and less power consumption. It also runs even much cooler than before.

As I said, perhaps an electrical person can shed some light on this (I'm a hardware guy)

Well, doesn't it mean it's no longer a "true" 3 channel amp or something like that?

My understanding is there are still 3 channels, but not the typical PPA type and we can't modify the ground as it's fixed. Dr. Xin must have strong reason to make this improvement since he found SM3 now has wider and deeper sound stage and "better bass response" than the beta SM3.

Well, he said they'd start shipping today... I know I ordered on the 7th, right around when V2.0 was announced (I was going to order that week anyway). I opted to wait for V3, so hopefully mine'll be in one of the first batches as well.

Hope you can share with us how it sounds tomorrow morning

I ordered last week and might be beyond the 100th
