Why UPS doesn't update tracking/confirmation information during weekend? What a pain to just be able to "imagine" how V3 sounds

BTW, would it be interesting to give NE5534's another chance given V3 has burn in? The original observation on NE5534 may or may not stand. IMHO, NE5534's are even more tube-like (warmer, more relaxing and engaging mid) than AD8610/OP627 in my V1 that run for >1000hrs.

Xin ships via USPS, not UPS. The government does't work on the weekends.

That's what I'm doing now. I'm burning in the NE5534's before rolling opamps. I want to get the true "flavor" of this opamp through repeated listening as well as burn-in. This will make comparisons with other opamps easier and more meaningful.

Wee! I got my SM V3 today! It sounds totally fantastic even without burn in. The sound stage seems expanded and I can hear even more details when compared to my V1. Also channel separation is more distinct. I will let you all know more once I burn it in fully.

Anyone have any idea how long it should take to charge the batteries internally if the amp is off? I'm using Ansmann 900 mAh.

I use 750amh's and it takes 8 hours to fully charge them while power-off. So, my best guess is 9-10 hours in your case. One tricky thing though, it takes forever to charge them up with the power on.

With the change in sound that I am experiencing with the 8610's in the V3 and how they did not impress me when used in the V1, ALL of the opamps will take a place of honor in the listening line-up. Reassessment to insue in short order. D@%#, I have to work the next two days. 12.5 hour shift leave little time for listening.

My V3 upgrade kit arrived this afternoon.

Assembly was pretty simple, took 5-10 minutes.

Fortunately I had a V1 onhand to see exactly there the plastic rods needed to go. The tick marks for centering the battery contacts on the back plate made alignment very easy. I'm burning it in with the default op-amps, and will try the 627 and 227 shortly.

Two minor visual differences between the V3 and the V1. The black volume knob now has rubber o-rings (like the sliver knobs) instead of machined ridges. Also the blue LED is much brighter/bluer than on my V1.

Oh, and I really LIKE the optional power plug extender!!!

I just received my upgraded SM/four switches (from V.1-V.2-V.3) and it looks the same. The sound with the 627s restored is a different story.

I am listening with a Sony D-EJ2000 pcdp -->line out --> Blackcoral mini-mini --> SMV.3 --> AKG501. I am listening to Brahms symphonies and Schumann piano music.

I must say that right away the sound is really very expansive with a huge soundstage....obviously the 501s help. With the bass boost, the AKG's shy bass is right there and in buckets! I really like the reall breadth of the frequency range. And with the piano, no tinny sibilance....just really sings on top.

Well, off to Montreal tomorrow...so guess who will have a musical plane ride??? More when I have had time to really burn everything in....

Ach! My sympathies to you, goto, for having to be Tantalus for the next 24h! OTH, 24hrs of shopping?!?

I'd either feel glad that you don't have to be subjected to such torture for the next 24h, or be worried about the dent in your cc bill!

I guess everyone needs an outlet to buy their toys, eh?
