It’s the worst I have seen, or imagined.
Take some gear, but I get getting light as well

I must say people on this thread make my collection feel pathetic. Also gives me something to aspire to. I’ll get there one day let’s hope.

Then again - What counts as Summit-Fi?

That depends on the individual's pair of ears IMO although of course the boring textbook answer would be the flagship level entries of cans, possibly including the one step below as well due to personal preferences in sound.

I went through various audio shops across the world testing a bunch of TOTL cans and IEMs to identify what my endgame sets were. Lots of lessons were learnt over time. But I reckon the most important lesson was being able to identify my preferred sound sig in order to pinpoint my personal Summit-Fi/endgame cans - this can however change over time as you test various high end cans, identifying new sonic aspects, which is a very fun experience.

Also, don't think your collection is "pathetic" - midfi stuff isn't far off from hifi at all especially if your sound preference isn't just technicalities. The journey and appreciation over time is what makes the experience worthwhile and fun.

Some (99%) would argue that a $8k headphone collection is the upper range (save had friends say “those where $700?!?! that’s crazy” one day i hope i’ll get to this level, at least Utopias and Hugo level (dream system: stax SRM-T8000 + X9000) but probably not to $100k plus (I say now:))

I heard that exact setup at last Melbourne hifi show and instantly they were my dream headphones (exit Diana MR and MDR-Z1R from five minutes earlier) the x9000 somehow combined the quality’s of each that I appreciated. Can’t say the Utopia 2022 did much for me.

The X9K is nice. I had it, sold it, but I had it. The SRM is not adequate. Plus once you get that, then you think about servers/streamers, then power conditioners, then cables, then blah blah blah. It never ends. People have the HE-1 and get streamers/servers and better dacs. There is no end. It's just an endless cycle of spending more money on better and better things. It's a disease. It's an addiction. We all have it, but maybe we don't recognize it.

somehow I’m enjoying hanging out with you bigwigs, gives me something to aim at. As long as you don’t mind adopting a child in this world :)

The Nordic countries have the best standard of living. I have blond hair and pale skin. I'm made for the cold. I love their music too (black metal for the win).

I need to move out ASAP. What's happening in the US is despicable. It's terrible. I don't know if I can weather the storm for 4 years. I'm gonna seriously consider moving out. What else can I do? All the right has all the guns. If there is a civil war, the right would win. It's time to move out. I'm seriously considering selling all my sh!t. I need to get out of the US ASAP. It's terrible here. Everything is going to sh!t. It's a fukcing worse case scenario. If you pay attention to the news, you know what I'm talking about. It's time to leave. This is some late 1930s sh!t. It's that bad.
Hope you find the grass is greener.

I'm definitely not political at all. Nothing changes the only effect is a bigger number to the bottom line.

I am hopeful a purge can birth a new start.

Just remember how we managed to get through covid, a real total travesty of government reach.

I probably spent over £20k in gear and headphones that I currently have in my collection and its a matter of finding "your sound" rather than extremely expensive headphones with insane technical performance. I own the Stax SR-009 and owned the Stax SR-009S which I recently traded for another MK1 007. The 009 & 009S were very impressive with their technical performance but lacked the emotional response in a lot of music I listen to. Sure they sound amazing for classical and orchestral types of music but that is a small part of my overall library. The MK1 007 strikes a perfect balance between technical performance and musicality for me and I am truly now at peace with the two 007s I have. The LCD 4 & 24 offer nice distractions and I still have the 009 for more treble focused music.

At this point, I have great gear, cables and headphones and no weak points in the chain so I am inclined to just save up for another car now instead of "wasting" more money into this hobby. I started in this hobby properly in 2022 with HD 700, LCD 2C etc. so to find endgame listening after only a couple of years is somewhat lucky after seeing so many people go down this rabbit hole for many more years.

Yep, agreed. Personally, I am no fan of the electrostatic sound.

Regarding finding the endgame bit - if you truly enjoy this hobby, I feel the exploration of finding various sounds and technicalities is at the very least partially what makes it enjoyable, rather than a chore as such.

Doesn't sound like you need a new car either btw. Just chuck it in BTC instead.

nice headphones to “start” with (arguably already pretty far into the hobby with these) I guess this is where the argument of not starting with expensive equipment comes from, allowing you to better appreciate what you upgrade to (i’ve got a friend who decided to get into headphones and bought 1266 straight up, kind of pointless if you don’t recognise or appreciate what you have). I started with Sennheiser momentum’s, bought fiio jh3 and ifi hip dac a year later, now have Stax SRS-2050II system, still entry level by some standards but well on the way.

Does anybody else have a rotation of sleeping music? Like music you listen to when you are falling asleep and something to dream to?

I'm super into sleeping music. Earth is perfect. It gives me good dreams. Esoteric gives me bad dreams, but I like them. Sleeping music is the sh!t.

I'm also into trances and meditation. Music can really help with that. It's crazy how music gets into our subconscious, and makes up great dreams.

I'm real into sleeping and dreaming. I like dreams more than reality

Anybody else into good sleeping music?
