Stax SR-X9000

This will work / fit?

Thanks for the dimensions, always useful. I think it should fit.
I believe the X9000 pads are nice design, at least the height, but the inner opening is slightly too big, compared proportionally (driver vs driver) to the Omega, 007 and 009.
I find the 009 pads to be probably the best balanced pads.

You can just pull off the X9000 pads, they are mounted with pins protruding from a plastic mounting ring. Beware not to break the plastic pins.
I suggest taking out the mounting ring from the pads and just place back the X9000 pads without the mounting rings for listening. I wager that may make it sound better right away.

Similarly, just place the 009 pads on, without the mounting rings.

Then, if you willl, put back the X9000 pads with the mounting ring, it should just click in.

If you like either pad without the mounting ring, use patches of double sided adhesive tape (of the thicker type, like 0.5-1 mm thick).

Out of curiosity: if someone has the possibility, could you try the X9000 with the 009 earpads, and report the subjective findings?
There is no way I will screw around with a brand new expensive headphones….. sorry.

+1

Especially when it already sounds amazing with the stock pads. Tweakers gonna tweak, I suppose... :relaxed:

I personally don't like the texture of 009 pads and to me X9000 has more comfy pads.

Did anyone else have an issue with the x9000 cups being massive? I’m sure it helps as the diaphragm of the driver is much bigger than previous models but man it was massive

To me the 009 pads are softer and provide an easier to achieve seal. So far the X9000 pads feel to me a little harder therefore more difficult to get a full seal. Up to now I have had zero “Stax farts” with the X9000 and I do get them sometimes with the 009.

Son guys, if you have $14k for an amp for your X9000 would you go for the T2 or something else?

T2 feels like the safest bet tbh. Other options are 3es, viva stx, maybe sweet talking Justin into a grand cayman preproduction unit, or speaker amp + custom converter box. Of those options, basicaly the only one with a decent amount of info published on it is the t2

To me the problem with the 3ES is the cost of 4 good 300b tubes. I am seriously thinking on the T2.

Never heard of seen the Viva.

3SE has superb low extension that will give many bright and bass light Electrostatic Cans low extension close to many plannars. It is a very netural to warm classical lush tuby sound, that will smooth out the hot Electrostatic highs that many don't like. Technically Woo may be the very few Electrostatic amps that does point to point wiring, which is technically marvelous. 3SE has the best density of information and every nuance is so controlled and organized. The tuning of Woo is very balanced and "correct" with minimal sound coloration. Woo amp is least colored In this group personally speaking.

T2 has better high extension, amazing stage, more open, more air and ease to my ears. Actually I can't discuss T2 without specifying the tubes in that the difference in tonality and tuning of different tubes is simply unbelievable which could represent opposite sound sig. I will probably be happy with 3SE if the chosen cans are ShangriLa SR or 009S. (X9000 and 3se Normal version don't get along at all in my opinion and many others, as being too dark, and too warm, I am sure their elite version could be way better with silver wiring to alleviate the sound sig) Otherwise, T2 is safe choice and could be still better choice even with these two cans depending on your personal preference. With Mullard tubes, the bass could even be better than 3se but the tonality may be sacrificed a bit and the sound could be less controlled and nuanced; with Pavone tubes, there will be sweeter tonality with sweet and mesmerizing high extensions, better control, better imaging but way less bass and fullness. Also the notes will be thinner with significant weight lost compared to Mullard.

Mullard is as a full bodied, musical ofc copper cable and Pavone is like a nuanced, detailed OCC silver cable.

Anyway, at this point, it is basically stylic difference. They are both top notch, it is more of a difference in presentation, tuning and synergy match.

I am also very looking forward to Justin's new flagship design which will cost more than T2 with options cost much more than T2. Considering the national and international fame of BHSE, Headamp's years of new design will definitely be sensational! Just for you know, based on the feedback from many Electrostatic headphone salons in Aisa, the majority of people actually prefer BHSE systems to much more costly Aperio.

Price wise, BHSE is also the most affordable one in this bunch with amazing potentials and ratio of price to performance, if you don't want to break your bank. As a matter of fact, according to a dealer in TX, the five buyers who bought X9000 all used BHSE with it.

Technically, BHSE is featured with a unique hybrid design with forte of both worlds, the holographic 3D tuby stage plus very clean and crispy transients in top solid state amps. If you can access Sony R10, you will see BHSE has the similar magical and ethereal midrange and vocal. It is actually the reference amp for Moondrop CEO and engineer when he developes his electrostatic headphone released not long ago in China.

I have invested vast time experimenting BHSE with cables of various sorts and dacs of different typologies while keep being amazed by its potentials that many people may haven't realized. With Cables like JPS Black or Dacs like Rockna, BHSE could do everything the Carbon could, but carbon can never do what BHSE can. Last but least, the best custom service I have experienced is from the fabulous Headamp team for sure from buyer's perspectives.

FYi, I have not yet experienced any satisfactory results using converters or ifi IESL to non Electrostatic energizers, especially compared to the terrific dedicated Electrostatic designs by Kerry, Justin and Woo.
