In what ways did you find the 009S a huge step up from the 009? I've sold off both my 007MK2/009 but haven't sold my BHSE yet, so I've been thinking maybe I'll keep it and try the 009S.

009S has less emphasis on the treble with more emphasis placed on the mid and lower ranges. Because of this it sounds more relaxed and natural instead of strident. The 009S strikes a much better balance in tonality for more genres of music.

009S does give up hair of soundstage and possibly speed to the 009 but the trade off is worth it.

Depending on what system you have, out of the T2...I actually prefer the 009 by a hair. Out of lesser amps including the KGSSHV carbon...the SR009S simply have better synergy. On the BHSE, it is a bit of a toss up.

I agree with all of the above, with the exception of speed. I found the 009S to sound faster, cleaner with better control. The only downside as oneguy mentioned is it does seem to have a smaller soundstage than the 009. I think the increased cost of the 009S is well justified.

I should have noted that my comments were on the T8000 for both 009 and 009S. I haven’t heard the 009S on anything but the T8000 so far.

Interesting, I have now seen conflicting feedback on SR-009 vs SR-009S sound stage. Guess that means they present it a bit differently?

On the BHSE, it is a bit of a toss up.

Agree ! I tried booth on my BHSE... and did not find the need to "upgrade" my 009 for a 009s

That is true about 009S trebles is a tad less than 009. It is not the fact that 009S is not emphasized in trebles, or 009 is emphasized. In my opinion, trebles on 009 is perfect. The 009S is just warmer in trebles and lower trebles. Overall signature is warmer, but faster bass. The 009S is a very masterfully and artfully colored version of 009. It is still different than the 007 MkI. I think it is a perfect answer for folks who always love 007 MKI warmth but without the overwhelming bass on a good amplifier.

009 is very balanced, matured, neutral. Yes, the mother!

009S is fun, but less matured, less balanced and less neutrality. Yes, the Daughter !

Get both ! Because at the end of the day, they are The same tier of differences In performances

This is just my opinion.

Yeah, an alternative fun of the same tier of differences :D

I had a chance to hear L700, SR-007A, SR-009 and SR-009S driven by SRM T8000, and the difference is quite obvious , and my preference:
1. SR-009S: clearly more detailed, but not bright, bass is fuller, midrane is more pronounce, best dynamic range.
2. SR-009 similar to 9S but less of yhe above.
3. L700 even though it has less bass than 7A but mid and high is more detail, much clearer than 7A make it more enjoyable.
4. SR-007A Dull, dull midrange, make it not as enjoyable as the above.

I've been using 007A with my Mjolnir Audio Mini KGSSHV for 2 years now and I've enjoyed the combo very much. I've never listened to the 009s.

I took a leap of faith and ordered the 009S, which arrived today. My initial thought was 'wow, these weigh more than my 007A!'. Looking at the specs, they weigh about 90g more than the 007A.

The 009S are so much more detailed, clearer and controlled than the 007A. It'll take me some time to get accustomed to the different presentation and how they feel on my head. I can see how some might prefer the musicality of the 007A. I got an excellent part-ex deal from my dealer so the actual cost to trade up was modest.

"009S has less emphasis on the treble"
This is what actually concerns me, because with the 009 paired with my system I never found the treble to have "emphasis" so I don't think I'd want less from the 009S.

same here. 009 with my sources and my amplifiers is just.. well.. perfectly balanced.
I would say. more or less of anything would be not perfect. I think this heavily depends on gears used and specific ears owned :beyersmile:

it seems that choosing between 009 and 009S heavily depends on the amplifier used. so IMHO it's not that 009S is better/worse than 009, it's simply slighlty different and one can choose based on taste and gears. I personally prefer the 009 (out of a GG).

That's my assessment after auditioning the 009S for a good one hours out of these three amps: T2, Carbon, and BHSE.
