Stax: SR 002 + Srm 002 and Srm 003 mk2 + Srm 003 impression and appreciation thread

I can finally connect the portable SR-001/002 to my SRM-T1 tube amplifier! :) A good friend built the adapter for me. It's a lot of fun to listen to the little ones. Go together incredibly well. The signature is similar to the legendary Omega in my opinion. Beautiful midrange and powerful bass. Just awesome...

Any chance you or your friend could post a pinout schematic? I'd be a lot more likely to buy an SR001 or 002 if I can make a adapter to use it with my SRM 717 amp.

If you only want to use the headphones with the SRM 717,
it might be easier to attach a PRO plug to the headphones.

Unfortunately the wires are varnished.
You cannot solder them directly. You have to remove the paint first.

That works with a solder bath.
Or you soak the stripped ends of the wires in acetone for about 10 minutes.
Then rub it off with a cotton swab. Soak the cotton swab with acetone as well.
Then you can solder it.

If you want to build an adapter: the pinout is not the problem.
The difficulty is making the PCB.
The PCB should be exactly 1mm thick.
If it's thicker, the connector may break.
If it is thinner, you will not get good contact.

You can order 1mm PCB, but the tolerances are +- 0.1mm
My PCBs are only 0.9mm and I need to apply tin to get good contact.

If you need the pinout, I'll send it to you as a message.
If you need circuit boards, I could offer them cheaply.

If several people are interested in the adapter, I could make a few.
Unfortunately, it's not worth doing these individually.
There should be at least 5, otherwise the effort is too high.

Regards Martin

I would absolutely love one of these adapters, so count me in as +1

Hi Martin,
Thanks for considering a small series. I'd be interested, too, especially if a clean look like this

was possible and if the price wasn't higher than 120$. Is this realistic?
Cheers,
Urs

It's nice that there's interest!
I have two more things to say.
The strain relief is not very strong. Therefore you have to be careful with the connector and not pull directly on the cables.
As I said, the PCBs (see picture above) are only 0.9mm thick and I have to put some tin on the contacts.

I don't have long-term experience, but my feeling is that it's very good that way.

The quality, look and feel are very good.
I am a craftsman and very critical myself.

The price of 120.- is not realistic
I would take 60€ each plus shipping from Germany.
I think that's fair for both sides.
This is not to make money. Just a friendship service.

It would take a couple of weeks because I would have to get some material first.

Regards Martin

€60 plus shipping is a wonderfully fair price! Definitely count me in, as I said before. Thank you for offering your service :) I’ve been wanting to make an adapter myself but don’t trust my skills.

I will make a batch of 5.
Maybe someone who is also interested will find this thread.

As it stands, it won't take that long. The only parts that are missing are the pins for the connectors.
I ordered them and they will be delivered tomorrow.

The cable length is variable. I think 25cm is ideal.
But you can determine that individually.

I got myself the SR-003 MK2 and it sounds amazing. The only issue I have with it is the stock eartips are quite uncomfortable (as it's been reported here). I bought some generic
foam ones and ripped the inner tube. They are much more comfortable than the stock tips but I can't seem to get a good seal. Any suggestions?

I have also contacted my local Stax dealer and I have ordered the CES-AT01, has anyone used it/have any reviews?
