I just got a pair of Denon AH-D5000's in the mail today, I'm listening to some random tracks and the left side has this weird distortion/static sound in the background making the song irritating to listen to.
 
Is this normal and simply goes away after you burn it in? Or should I seek a refund?

No, that is not normal at all.  Have you plugged any other phones into your source to rule it out?

Yep, my DT770's work just fine. So do the Sennheiser HD650s.

Then definitely the phones and something loose or damaged.  I would definitely send them back.
