Hey there, does anyone know what the diameter of the drivers in these and if they would be a good contender for replacing the drivers in a pair of vintage Pioneer SE L40?
And if you have some other ideas for good drivers around 38mm-40mm feel free to leave it :)

Have you tried to contact Pioneer personally to see if them can sell you a driver? If not try ebay for a broken pair and replace the driver, or sell them and buy the mint pair of L40's on ebay right now with the case.

Well, I strongly doubt they would have 40 years old drivers lying around, but yes, so far the plan is to get a pair of SE L40's off eBay, though its extremely expensive (they go for around 250$ these days) and then, if i don't like their sound (since they're 40 years old), remove the drivers and insert some modern ones from fx. grado sr80 and a new good cable.

Man I love those headphones, been trying to win one since long ago but every time thy go over 100, and even more.
just soome minutes ago i was looking at this one, excellent condition ... 170$ and 2 days left.

Its some beautiful headphone indeed. and good idea on the grado drivers, tho the back of the SE-L40 seems to be a bit closed.

anyway, I know an user who is selling a pair for 80$ IIRC, but it has one piece missing, the right piece, (the one with R in it) maybe he still has it

Ok, I just bought a pristine, never used pair of SE L40. It was expensive to say the least, but then its even prettier than that picture! Anyway, i still need to find out the size drivers grado uses before i buy one to know it'll fit (and the mesh on the back of the SE L40 its "open"). I think ill give the SE L40s a chance, since they're practically new, they've got a chance to sound well when given a decent amp.
