Soundsoul S-018 Impressions Thread

If you want a similar sound, get rockjaw alfa genus. With the champagne nozzle, it sounds similar to s-018, but the bass has more impact and solid.

See this is the problem with this forum <joking>.  I already had Alfa Genus and ZA Tenore/Bosso on my short list to try out in the next couple of months.  Then a post like this shows up and I start thinking, "whats $45.  Just bring in sandwiches for lunch for a week or two and I can be test driving the Rockjaws".

I'm going to kick myself for asking but any thoughts on which to get first-- ZA or Rockjaw?  I may be going on a lunchtime diet soon.

The issue I see with the Rockjaw is those tuning filters. I think it's a gimmick, with more placebo than potential, though the reviews have been relatively solid, and it seems like a budget King along with the S-018 and Tenore?

Do we know if those are legit? SoundSOUL said they're fakes out there.

..

Why don't you buy from Amazon.com? I don't know if they are legit or not but the seller on Amazon is already Soundsoul Audio.

I have the rockjaw out of curiosity (I didn't even find it on head-fi, just browsing through amazon lol). At first I also think it will be only a gimmick, but it is not. The difference is very noticeable. All 3 nozzles give a different boost to the frequency. I even tried to inspect the nozzle, but there is no filter or foam on both the black (high boost) and silver (bass boost) nozzle, but the gold (balance) has foam in it.

I've just received my S-018. I confess that I expected more, I found the bass a little inadequate in quantity but not in quality. I hope that with the mods, things get better.

Although, the soundstage is the best I've ever heard in this price range.

It's a titanium driver. First off, it takes many hours of burn in to get them to sound their best, and secondly, you need to tip roll, because the stock tips are useless. Most importantly, they aren't FX850's, so temper the enthusiasm and disappointment, give them time to burn in, and tip roll. Oh and these were never advertised as basshead IEMs. Not close. They have solid, punchy, and articulate bass and a balanced sound. Basshead need not apply.

T-S500 comply tips will bring about more bass, vents mod will give the bass more extensions, and the sound overall to be more smooth compare to stock. I love my modded S-018, i pick it more than T2 and Im70...to me it is that good

Source is only high-res song tracks and Z3

Any tips on how to do the vent mod in particular? Don't really want to end up somehow ruining them.
