Depends on preference. I bought the upgrade cable as really don't like the original cable with the memory wire inside. With the upgrade cable, it is much more comfortable to wear now.

I'll probably upgrade the cable. Stock is annoying.

   Bought them yesterday. Omg, treble is soooo sweet after 846s, and they are much smaller than I imagined.

Still waiting for mine to arrive, guess have to wait till Monday to AJ process my order (it said in STOCK, ship in 1 - 2 days)

I also find the stock cable annoying, and really wanted volume controls. So I ordered one from Null Audio for like $50. It's on the way to the US from Singapore so probably another week or so until I can get pictures and post my thoughts. I doubt there will be any audible difference to me, which is preferred. I just did it for the comfort and function.

The EX1000 are more neutral, especially in the bass. They would probably complement your Z5 very well. I own the EX1000 and owned the A3.

I found the EX1000 to strident for my ears. I "upgraded" from my 7550 which I sold to help buy the EX1000 and regretted the decision. In the end I sold the EX1000 for a loss and moved on. If you have any issues with sibilance I strongly suggest you hold off on the EX1000.

Agreed, they were innovative, and had a good sound compared to what else was out at time of release, but the EX1000 don't hold up so well in 2016
