Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I heard them at CanJam very briefly. They sounded very unnatural and closed-in to me, so much so I took them right off. I much prefer the Focal Clear to it.

I have one on the for sale forums in near perfect condition with a shortened Sony MUC cable and free shipping, insurance, and PP fee for $1300. Shipping/insurance/PP fee is like $100, so it's essentially a like new Z1R plus an originally $250 cable for $1200.

Not too heavy, I can't imagine anything going wrong carrying over $10k for a portable rig.

Ha Ha .. love this, being I own a pr of the Z1R

Which of those do you like best with the z1r headphones?

Out of those on the Z1R I’d probably recommend the H2. The Z1R is a warmer headphone. So some people prefer using a more neutral amp-amp/dac. I’ve seen others use amp/DACs that are a bit bright. I think to create a less midbass character in the Z1R. If you like that buttery warm sound ....nice and smooth, the TA Z1ES Sony amp is a very luscious sound on the Z1R

Listening with the Manley Neo 300b with Svetlana 300b tubes, the Z1R, like the Z7, becomes very pure and stat like. The bass is amazing.

If they actually get better with break in, I might not be able to stand it. Already powerful emotional connection, which is the most elusive audio spice.

Even more comfortable than Z7, which was already a most comfortable headphone.

I wanted to buy a Z1R but having the Z7 and listening my music alot while in bed I heard that the Z1R is utterly unconfortable in bed being too big and touching the pillow. The Z7 are simply perfect in size. What is your experience? Is the Z1R a good improvement to the already amazing Z7 which is the best can of all time for me and I own quite a few headphones? As Amp/Dac at the moment I am using a Topping DX7s with the Balanced 4 pin XLR, A Loxjie P20 also balanced. Waiting for the THX 789. I own also a Fostex TP50RP mk3 with Shure Pads and it sounds fantastic with more highs then the Z7 but less Bass. Love both. I own many more like the Audiotecnica W5000, AKG 712 Pro, ATH AD900X, Sennheiser HD6XX, 58X, 598sr, 598Cs and more... The Z7 is my first choice hands down together the Fostex. The 712 Pro sounds amazing too and I compared it to the HD800 and it sounded better imo with much better bass response and same level of detail but have a very low wattage imput so it distorts quite easily raising the volume.

I debated a long time to pair my TA-Z1ES with the Z1R, now i regret not doing so & it looks like they're now unavailable in the U.K. ??
TA-Z1ES is quite over-priced for performance. I was quite disappointed based on it's retail and it's performance. I've been let down by high-end Sony stuff most often that I really don't expect their products to perform their value.

S-master DAC sounds ordinary, the amp sounds ordinary. Why should I expect any of their future stuff to perform if they price theirs like this?
