Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Nicely done! It kind of reminds me of the hard case for Meze Empyrean, which really comes in handy when traveling or bringing them to a store to try out new amps/streamers. I’m kind of tempted to have one made for Chord Dave for transporting it. Lugging around an $11000 piece of equipment in a cardboard box seems like a really stupid idea. How much labor did it take to hollow out those shapes? With Dave’s shape it would take much less effort.
I only bought the case and it came with layers of foam thay you can pluck to shape whatever you will put in there. I just added the silk cloth to cover the corners of the cutout. Here a pic of the shape i made for the hd800.

Don't put the "Chord Dave" name outside of the box and leave the box alone... But maybe just a really few people know what a Dave is... Maybe they think you have your friend Dave in the box :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
No, of course not. That’s just asking for trouble. It would be a simple, discrete looking case. No one needs to know what’s in it.

You are not alone. The gold plating of mine started to turn a little brown after 1.5 years. So I clean it with deoxit d100l once a quarter. Now almost 4 years, still working fine.
Just used Deoxit myself on the Kimber connector. Can confirm - no more static when it turns!

Has anyone listened to both Z1R and Fostex TH-900 Mk2? - I like both the quality and quantity of bass and I am wondering which one has better bass... Thanks!
I own both headphones. The Fostex has the edge in quantity, in both mid and sub-bass, but the Sony provides a grander presentation, with better texture. It's hard to split the 2 apart, since they take the crown in various aspects, relevant to the bass.

Can't go wrong with either but the th900 mk2 rattles my skull harder a bit and I'm using aftermarket yaxi pads.
Maybe, in the future, I would share a pic similar like yours, changing the ZMF with Denon AH-D9200s and removing the brushes -I'm not a good picture painter, just walls...-

Yea... the denon was definitely considered, im a sucker for Made in Japan, but wasn't sure if the denon will sound similar to the th900, so I went with my curiosity for zmf.

Good painter is indeed subjective...

I will say this, if I had to sell all and keep one, i'll probably keep the z1r, the whole presentation, comfort and build is just awesome. I can have the z1r on my head all day during work or painting sessions. But this is not a knock to my other cans. I still like having them around to rotate.

Yes, I have asked a few guys here that have tried Denon AH-D9200 and Fostex TH 900 and they find them similar. I'm sure I will try Z1R in the future (I love my Z7s), after I re-new my DAC an AMP, but instead of TH 900 MK 2, I would go with the new Kennerton Rögnir, I'm waiting for first reviews (not "official" reviews, just from guys in it's thread) and comparisons against Thekk and GH 50 JM edition. I want to try a plannar, but a good one :relaxed:

Anybody have tips on how to remove that "old" smell from the pads? my new unit was manufactured 01/2020 so they are old stock and they have that smell.
Out of curiosity, how can you tell the date of manufacturing? I'd be curious to see when mine was produced lol

I have mine indicated in a sticker on the underside of the box. Looks like this.
