Massive thread, love it. I'm considering buying a zx507 (Japan domestic model) because I really like the form factor, but skimming through this mega thread I still would like to confirm:

1) In 2023 there is still no root available or is it?
2) How easy is it to replace the battery by yourself (are there higher capacity aftermarket ones)?
3) Is the eq (peq or 10 Band?) systemwide (as in effects also playback in Qobuz and Spotify Apps) or just within the Walkman app?
4) The Walkman app does support search, correct?
5) Does the Walkman app support "Album Artist" when browsing local files?
6) Can the bloatware be uninstalled or only be disabled?
7) Any sound differences using a 3rd party app like UAPP comparing to using the native Walkman player app with local FLAC?

Coming from a rooted LG V20, I'm also still wondering how much of an sq improvement it is going to be. Going to add the Sony MDR-Z1R to my collection (marvelous on the Sony desktop headphone amp) and hoping for great synergies.

Depending on price, I will try out the Shanlin M3 ultra as well, any experiences in comparing these 2 players head-to-head?

Hi all,

I bought today a ZX505 (China region). It has a lot of preinstalled Chinese programs that I can't uninstall.
And it doesn't have Google Play Store on it, which I installed, but it doesn't start.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
Everything is fine on the ZX507.

Thanks

Cheers

Try formatting it on US soil using a laptop or computable computer.

You can try to load International firmware by turning off wifi and copying this to internal storage, following the prompts:

There is no problem. Its illegal to use the Google Play Store in China and to uninstall the apps. So it works exactly as it is supposed to work.

Thats China, don't buy stuff there^^

I tried to build my own kernel, and I modified the device tree to allow lower cpu clock frequency, and I hope this can make the battery life better. There's no lag so far, and audio playback and the Sony EQs works perfectly. No luck on root/magisk tho, but honestly it doesn't concern me that much.

Everyone should use the Chinese firmware tho, it doesn't have the Google bloatwares. It's much responsive and has much better battery life. Just download your streaming apps from apkpure.
