SONY NW-ZX500

Any information about the ZX-505 model (the same device with 16 GB storage instead of 64 ). If it is significantly cheaper it may be a better buy since a 512 GB SD card can be used anyway.

Is anybody using a 3rd party music app on their ZX500/A100? Do you have a minute?

I'm trying to collect a compatibility list of 3rd party music apps over in this thread (so the information doesn't get lost across the pages of these mega threads). Your comment would help build knowledge that benefits the community and future owners.

It is possible to disable the EU volume cap !

https://helpguide.sony.net/dmp/nwzx500/v1/en/contents/TP0002432947.html
he AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) function reduces the risk of damage to ears from loud volumes. Using AVLS limits the maximum volume.

AVLS has the following features.

  • AVLS limits the volume to a certain level.
  • AVLS prevents disturbances to others caused by loud volumes.
  • AVLS reduces risks that occur when you cannot hear ambient sound.
  • AVLS allows you to listen at a more comfortable volume.
  1. Swipe the Home screen upwards.

  2. Tap the menu items in the following order.
    c_android_settings_label.png
    [Settings] - [Sound].

  3. Tap the [AVLS (volume limit)] switch.

Volume operation in compliance with European and Korean Directives
  • For European customers
  • For Korean customers (models supplied with headphones)
The alarm (beep) and warning [Check the volume level.] are intended to protect your ears. They occur when you initially turn the volume up to a harmful level. You can cancel the alarm and warning by tapping [OK] on the alert dialog.
Note
  • You can turn up the volume after you cancel the alarm and warning.
  • After the initial warning, the alarm and warning will repeat every 20 cumulative hours that the volume is set to a level that is harmful to your ears. When this happens, the volume will turn down automatically.
  • If you turn off the player after you have selected a high volume that may damage your eardrums, the volume level will automatically be lower when you turn on the player the next time.
  • The alarm will not sound when there is an active Bluetooth connection.

Tips to improve battery time:
1) Settings > Security & Location > Find My Device > OFF
2) Settings > Security & Location > Privacy > Location > OFF
3) Settings > Accounts > Automatically Sync Data > OFF

Tips to Improve DAP responsiveness:
3) Settings > Accessibility > Remove Animations > ON
4) Download Google Files
https://files.google.com/
Clean Junk Files once in a while(weekly or daily)

Apps that can be disabled safely without affecting playback functionality or performance:
5) Settings > Apps & Notifications > See All Apps:
Calculator (Use your phone!)
Chrome (Browsing on a 3.6" screen???)
Contacts (This is not a phone)
Digital Wellbeing (No need to track screen time)
Drive (Cloud storage not required for music)
Google Japanese Input
Google Pinyin Input
Google Play Movies & TV (Not going to watch movies on 3.6")
Google Play Music (Walkman app is better)
Google Text to Speech Engine (Not required at all)
Maps (Navigating using your DAP?)
mora (Japanese streaming app, maybe for some of us here)
Photos (Storing and viewing photos on 3.6" DAP?)

Just to note:
Audio Technica ESW990H pair to ZX507 is a match in heaven. ZX507 just drives it perfectly via 3.5mm(high gain). Vocals(especially female) sounds so surreal. I have order the HDC114A 4.4mm cable to pair to the Sony.

Anyone here can kindly recommend me a flagship/upper tier IEM that works well with Sony DAPs and is really good presenting female vocals and timbre? I was thinking between the victor ha-fw1500 or the sony IER-M9. But I am open to any good recommendations.

china is selling it for 3999rmb, and you probably only get like 9GB usable memory, for a android device, you better stick with the 64GB.

My 64GB ZX507's system storage already shows up as 13.70GB used(my music is stored on microsd). I am betting the 16GB model storage size won't be comfortable.

The only 4 additional apps I have:
Google Files
USB Audio Player Pro
Youtube Music
Sony Headphone Connect

This will affect Walkman App's UI fonts and song list, try experimenting and see what suits you. I like mine both set to small.

Settings > Display > Advanced >
Font Size
