Did you turn off USB DAC charging? Could be the reason why it's sucking that much up.

I agree. I like the Chord Mojo over the ZX300. However it's not easy carrying a Mojo and file source. ZX300 does sound good though. Great battery life and overall presentation is very good for a DAP.

It can't be helped that the ZX300 can't keep up with the Mojo though. Mojo is a very high quality DAC, and the best up to the 2Qute, which sells for about £800 now. (2Qute originally cost £1000.) I find the Mojo and the ZX300 have the same bass/treble balance, and tonal presentation. Mojo is just much more exact.

I was listening to music today and my DAP almost ran out of juice. The way I normally use it (to feed a DAC) means that you cannot charge while playing. So I decided to pull it out of the system and just go DAP to headphone, while charging the DAP. Beyerdynamic T5P.2's into SE mode in low gain. They are so easy to drive I had to drop the volume to 66 out of 120. It is amazing how fast you can get used to a certain sound. The 'phones and DAP combo sounded thin, a little soft and just not as full. I know this makes sense as my normal routine is DAP to DAC to EQ to Amp to 'phones.

I sometimes wonder if I am wasting money on a stready stream of new toys. But I can say today that I am not and that "bare bones" (not even balanced) is a big step down for me from the system that I have built.

Of course the EQ, that I use with one amp, does change the sound. And I didn't volume match, although my ears tell me if it was louder very quickly. My range of enjoyment tops out at about 75 Db's. With any 'phones I have, I have to drop the volume when going from old Jazz/Motown to newer music.

Just an observation. I do still love my ZX300 although I don't know how long it will last feeding a DAC. I have to charge it every second day.

I sometimes wonder if I should just keep it simple and save my money with one device like the ZX300, but as good as it does sound everytime I listen with to a dedicated amp/dac I can hear a better quality of sound and I feel satisfied with the money spent.

Just get a dedicated walkman dock and you can charge while using it as a digital transport feeding USB digital signal to a DAC.

Definitely a thought but I hate to give up more desktop space. I turned off the charging function in my DAP and will see how it goes for the next few days.

Just got the remote today.

Overall, I quite like it. With the right clips, it's dead tight on the cable, so much so that I'm avoiding using it to avoid linking the cable.

Pairing was annoying first time round, not made any simpler by the fact that it's in Japanese. But after pairing, it's dead simple to connect again.

The wireless design means that I get to attach the remote wherever I want, which is mighty convenient.

Will monitor battery life to see if therest an impact.

I did turn that off, but it made no difference.

A word of caution on the spring loaded clip. I would recommend not to use it, but to use the lanyard to attach it to a bag, etc, or on your wrist. The spring loaded clip can be knocked off, or slip off. It is an expensive(and painful) lesson to reach for it, where you had clipped it, and to find that it is not there.

Do you have a model name or number for this?

Sony NW-ZX2 (USB out) and similar Sony players (ZX300, ZX100?)
Supports R1 (USB audio out) with the optional WMC-NWH10 cable, or via the BCR-NWH10 dock/cradle.

Hi,

I just placed an order for ZX300 here in Australia. It comes with 64GB card but my existing portable library on ZX1 is almost full to 128GB.

So,I found great deal on 200GB Sandisk "Ultra" card , but have also noticed that there's "Extreme" range at the higher price. I've been thinking that given the WM port is USB 2.0 standard, would there be any benefit of getting the "Extreme" version for quicker write speeds. I only intend to use this card for ZX300.

Any thoughts:?

Regards

I don't think there are any benefits gained from getting a higher specced card - I believe the money spent on card size is of the most benefit.
