SONY NW-ZX2
Jun 13, 2015 at 7:30 PM Post #5,911 of 14,755
Hi All;

Also had my impressions taken yesterday for sending off to the nice folks at Kaiser so that they can make me a pair of K10s.

Still waiting for the burn in period to end , but even so, I am in love with the sound I am getting from my Sennheiser IE80s via the ZX-2; so I am having difficulty imagining how much better it will be when the burn in finishes and the K10s arrive.

Also, the Japan only leather case is such an improvement on the supplied version, it is well worth it.

BTW, the cheapest way to improve the sound you get from any device is to have your ears professionally cleaned; my audiologist suggested I have this done before impressions were taken and the difference between before & after the micro suction is amazing.

Got a line out adapter in the mail today.  Am intrigued to hear how this may offer an improvement as a proper line level output (use in the car, etc.).

The interconnect was made by Peter at Double Helix.  I asked him about getting an 'Ultrashort Adapter' for this adapter, but he merely referred me to these adapters on Ebay and another website that sold all kinds of supplies for cable manufacturing. I'd already looked at some of these and decided to pick one up as this one cost less than $20, and the Ultrashort Adapters are being sold for $90 and will most likely feature the same connector, but with maybe some better solder and wires if any are needed to connect the female miniplug connector (this plug might be bettered in some way also).

I've also ordered the Sony digital out cable which is coming, which will hopefully get me to where I can feed my main rig properly.

Where can I purchase this adapter? Can you give me the correct name or a link for ordering this, please.
Thank you in advance.

Someone in China actually made something similar for HiFiMAN with Oyaide P-3.5SR and just wondering if that were also applicable here?

Don't suppose if anyone knows if the grounds on the Sony jack are wired the same way round as those of A&K (i.e. R=R and L=L)?

Looking at trying to find a 2.5mm 4 pole TRSS to 3.5mm 4 pole TRSS adapter, but - won't bother if they're reversed :)

Unfortunately, for now it's Japan exclusive.....

Since you know more about accessories than we do, may I ask a question regarding interaction between ZX2 and SmartWatch 3 SWR50?

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/smartwear/smartwatch-3-swr50/

Right now ZX2 is running Android 4.2.2 while the official Sony Music (previously Sony Walkman) app requires 4.2 and up

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.music
Requires Android
4.2 and up

However, Android Wear is a launcher that requires Android 4.3 or above

https://support.google.com/androidwear/answer/6056401?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.wearable.app

Some remote control features were implemented in previous version 8.5 of Walkman app but unfortunately Android Wear is necessary for both

http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/11/26/walkman-app-update-8-5-a-0-6-brings-android-wear-support/
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/13/walkman-update-8-5-a-3-2-view-songs-in-your-playlist-on-android-wear/

Both Google Glass and ZX2 are sharing the same TI OMAP 4430 SoC, the former is running Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat while the latter run might be stuck with 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for an indefinite amount of time. Therefore Android Wear support on ZX2 could be more or less a pipe dream IMHO.

Now the question is, could the Music / Walkman app on ZX2 be remotely controlled by SmartWatch 3 SWR50 via a different protocol other than Android Wear?

Thank you.

Now that SSD drives are so cheap, (USD99 for 250 GB), does anyone know whether there is some way to connect and use this with the ZX-2?

People make all sorts of uninformed pronouncements. All the bad reviews I read are by people who don't state the full chain. Frankly their words are not worth much. What would you think of someone telling you a Ferrari does not handle well but neglect to tell you that they tried it off-road? Stupid people abound.

The ZX2 is a player with an output stage designed for efficient headphones. For example, ZX2 plus HD600 or HD650 sounds weak compared to putting a Ray Samuels Predator amp in the middle. I own and have tried all of this. But powering efficient IEMs - like my Noble K10 customs, the output stage of the ZX2 is magical, and beats the Predator hands down.

My Ferrari handles excellently on and off road thank you.......................at least in my mind.
