SONY NW-ZX2

Am sure it could easily be rooted.

Have been debating playing with the config file and other bits once the review is done. Of course we want to have an 'image' of the stock setup/software before then going in and having fun. Am sure none of us want to own a $1200 brick. Would be great if the XDA Developers folks got on the case with this unit. They're incredible with devices!

Got my zx2 today and been messing around with it.  So far the sound doesn't anything spectacular but i will let it have some time.  The one big problem is I have on stuck pixel that is kind of bothering the hell out of me.

Stuck pixels are so "last decade". It is disappointing to see them turning up in a device like this. I assume it is stuck on at full brightness which is why it is annoying you....it would to me too!

As for the sound...give it some time. I was initially disappointed as well. In particular it sounded identical to my ZX1 and I was wondering if I had messed up trying to upgrade it. However, I left it running for 12 hours overnight and by the morning it was different (better) sounding. In particular I could now easily identify the ZX1 from the ZX2 which I would have been easily fooled in a blind test the night before.

No its annoying because I paid 1k for this and expect these thing not to happen.  I don't know if I should live with it or send back to Japan for a fix since that is why a hassle to send it back.

The pixel is white so it stuck and not dead.

Your only option is to massage it out, those color flashing screen does nothing, also the retailer or manufacture has the right not to accept returns or exchange, the international standard for this size screen having 3-4 pixels is acceptable regardless of cost you paid for it. Whether you like it or not, but some retailer will accept returns at good will.

Good luck if you intend to return it.

I just checked and now it says available but shipping data is still 4/6.

Did you purchase one and being ship to you now?

Thanks for information!

I ordered January 13th. Sony USA site still says April shipping date, but I got my shipping notification yesterday.

it means if you ordered the unit now, it will be shipped in April.

It is extremely unusual to have a complete 3 sub-pixel failure (Red, Green and Blue). Often apparent white sub pixels are actually dust/dirt trapped under the screen and the backlight is reflecting off it. If you look at the screen off-angle and the "stuck" pixel disappears while the rest of the screen is still visible, this would be an indication of dust/dirt. If it is a true stuck pixel, sometimes a finger flick to the screen can help jolt it back into working (basically reconnecting the sub pixels). Although I believe the screen is glass, so shouldn't scratch with a finger nail, you will probably want to put a very thin cloth inbetween when doing this.

It is possible, when I buy a phone in Hong Kong, as I know the shops, I usually spend a good few hours check for pixels problem, even with one stuck pixels, I can exchange it.
but as you have mentioned, screens are getting better with less problems. Samsung used to have a lot, but I haven't seen them with problems for a long time, and apparently Sony and HTC still have them.

Well, I've decided to take mine back and try to get a replacement. The battery drain is driving me nuts. I have tried everything and can't figure it out. Today I started from a full charge and was down to 90% within 30 minutes, and that's on mp3 files, I read others claiming 8 hours flac playback at 80% remaining. I am not even close. I got 9.5 hours yesterday and was down to 35%. I have never even broke 20 hours. And I always power down when I take a break so android isn't running and draining it even more,

If the second unit performs the same, then I can rule out the battery being the problem. Hope it's not a long wait to get a replacment.

Yeah, that just really doesn't seem right.

I've just reached the end of my first "real world" battery life test. Basically, use the device like I normally would, paying no particular attention to what sort of files I'm playing, how long I'm leaving the screen on, etc.

Starting from 95% charge, I've had the system "on" for almost exactly nine days, and listened to 25 hours of music—which by my estimate would probably be 50% mp3, 40% 16/44.1 FLAC and 10% hi-res. After all of that, the battery indicator is at 8%. My next test will add in the task of turning the ZX2 off once every night. Over the course of nine days, I suspect it may add 5-10 extra hours of playback.
