I'm mega late to the party, but I finally bought a ZX2. Quite possibly my favorite combo ever was ZX1 + Portapro, so I look forward to testing out ZX2 + Portapro. Don't look down on the Portapro people, if you don't own one get one asap

Hold on, wait a second...

You were the one who couldn't stop raving about the specs of the ZX2 before it got released. What is more, you shared all your in-depth analyses of the sonic improvements the new components would bring with us. These made a lot of people around here want to purchase the ZX2, including me. Now you're telling us that you waited this long to finally pull the trigger on the ZX2? That's a scandal if ever I encounterd one!

Hi Steven;

Thanks; it is the first of the two you show. I shall try a specialist car audio guy who I know.

Glad you enjoyed the Nurburgring video; that was the first lap; where we had it to ourselves (we were shooting for the Discovery channel); here is the second lap, when they allowed everyone else on the circuit.

Well, er, um, you see it is like this. The car is a, ummm... you should know i've got a car fettish and have raced Formula 2000 cars (earned the Driver's Championship in SCCA). So, ummmmm, it is like this.... a Bentley GTC (ducks for cover).

  1. No need to justify yourself. Man, I just can't get over the fact that you do all this for a living and get to play with all these beautiful gadgets. Absolutely insane. Keep up the fine work, Steven!

Aha, um, your McDonalds comparison is starting to pale into utter insignificance after your comment one page earlier about the car you're driving ...

No scandal, was just waiting for the right price, here in AUS the ZX2 retails for AUD $1599, which is a bit steep for me, but I found one from an importer for AUD $1234, and I thought, well that's a tidy number if I ever saw one, must buy!

Yes a tidy number that's for sure, and even if you wanted one here in Australia well there no stock, so it looks like the only way to purchase one at this stage. Looks like they sell out soon after the stock arrives.

No worries dude. Easy stuff if you work only 80 hours a week for 15 years nearly non-stop, have no kids, are good with investing, coding, web mastering, photo editing, photography... oh yeah, and sell your soul for rock 'n' roll. But yeah, weird life here for sure on the xTremes. Gotta look back and laugh at the saga of it all, and perhaps why there is no fear for utter (and complete) failure.
Guess 'average' aint in my vocab. Living life is a sport, no hobby.... Ok, this means two videos for you

Hey,

Same setup as you. ZX2 with CDM.
It is a pity that this setup only play PCM Hi Res.
Only way to get the CDM to go DSD is to play it thru a Windows or Mac.
Trying to find a dap(maybe mobile phone) to allow CDM to go DSD.

Cheers and enjoy the music

Reading you guys, looks like a log of comparisons are made between ZX1, ZX2 and the AKs. However, not a lot of comparison are made with the Cowon Plenue 1 which is about the same price range. I owe one but also new to the forum so anyone can tell me why? Is it because P1 is marginally less bought than the other ones or what?

Reason of this question is I got my P1 and Shure SE846 stolen and looking to rebuy a P1 or something else depending on your wise advices...

Hey do you guys know where we can buy single hd 192/24bit songs? Dont want to buy full albums..

HDtrack, hifitrack, Mora, e-onkyo and there are many more, just google the track you want with hi res, flac or 192/24 and you will get many, including low res flac.

Mora and e-onkyo may pose some problem in registration or payment, but there are ways around it.

^ thx for the reply but most of those sites only sell full albums:frowning2:

They sell whole album or individual track, some times the record companies request that the full album to be downloaded.

apart from e-onkyo, I'm using them all, and have download both full album and individuals track.

you can also find them in some forums in which I cannot link.

If they run fine on smartphones, most 3rd party applications doesn't improve the SQ in anyway on a dedicated dap, this is because they have been tuned to be compatible with all mobile dacs but aren't tuned specifically for professional dacs, same applies if you use a budget 48khz portable amp with a 384khz high end dap, you won't be able to get more than what the amp is capable of. Inversely It will sounds like a converted mp3 file into flac, the additional information is fake, it will sounds wider but with " reinvented" details through the conversion process. However, Neutron can ace if tuned correctly, but most users out there just don't know how to do it so you'll end up with an unbalanced output and the sound will be veiled as if you're narrowing the bandwidth in the same way Bluetooth wireless headphones work. Please note that, the stock music app has been tested and optimised with the dac for the device, you won't find anything better in the 3rd party zone.

I would agree that no other music app or 3rd party generic non Sony app that's designed to run on android will have the same access to the specialised layer of hardware, and as a result sound's inferior (and I wouldn't think that Sony would want it any other way).

So Sony do really need to make this default player of theirs work "perfectly", and I'm not completely convinced it's running as bug free as it could be, but every time I press play I'm silenced buy this wall of incredible audio, which leave's me speechless, and wanting more.
So I guess any shortcomings of this zx2, are just, oh well part of the bigger picture, and Sony are better at creating technology, than conforming with other's set standard's.
