and mp3 256 is 25% of flac, it's a waste of space, it's a waste of battery, and it's a waste of transfer time (and this player doesn't even use usb 3.0? jesus christ)

USB 3 you got it right, but with mp3 256 you are wasting the advanced capacitors and DAC chip you miss pristine sq benefits by not using lossless

Could be worse. Other makers sell hardly usable DAPs with clunky hardware and halfbaked UI. And they charge even more and are praised for it by users because "it sounds good".

So in this context the ZX100 is a quite a good deal. It has a functioning UI and works right out of the box.
That's more than what you can say about most of their competitors' products....

On the A17 it ignores the "the" in library view of artists and albums. Of course in folder view it will still appear under T.
In MediaGo it is by default setting to ignore "The". But in MediaGo you can set the sorting anyhow under properties.

What's the difference between library view and folder view?

Would you be able to post a pic of what it looks like for both please?

Library view is based on the tags. So you can sort by artists, albums, genres or years.

Folder view is based on how you name and organize the folders on your pc before you transfer them to the device.

But for some reason which only Sony knows in folder view you cannot access your whole collection as the devive differentiates between internal storage and files on the SD card. In library view you can access your whole collection.

I'm not really concerned about sound quality, if I could buy a 128gb version of my hd5 I'd instead do that, even if it was 700 dollars.

you can just buy a Fiio M3. cheaper than ZX100

this is actually the reason why i bought the ZX100. you dont need to wait for a good "firmware" before you can enjoy it.

I am interested in ZX100.  Would Sony Z7 sound good without an amp like mojo?  Currently own A17, but would some more punch.

the ZX100 has same output power as A17. So if for your personal taste you believe an amp is needed to bring the Z7
to satisfactory levels it still will be so for the ZX100.

The Z7 has 70 Ohms, so that's pretty much on the edge of what the Sony DAPs with their limited output power can drive.

This seller is claiming the japanese version has an english menu option

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-NW-ZX100-Walkman-128GB-Hi-Res-Audio-Player-Japan-Domestic-Version-New-/331812644621?hash=item4d4193270d:g:NTEAAOSwoudW9NsV

"This player is a Japanese domestic version.
There is no functional difference between Japanese and international version.
Menu language can be chosen between Japanese and English."

But everything I've read in this topic tells me that's not true. I'm assuming the seller is wrong?
