I still think the screen is not the problem for the sake of good sound.

It would not have been a dealbreaker if the device was 200 euros cheaper. But that wasn't the case and I couldn't stand the thought of  subpar screen at that price point. Especially as I quite often have a look at album artwork before I press play, to sort of simulate vinyl experience a little bit.

The A846 had an OLED display so it was probably more vivid, but as they aren't focused on video or even photos the ZX100 is toatally fine

Another question to ZX100 owners - does the -3db gain DSD setting boost the volume?

Planning to buy a portable slim amp to stack with my zx-100. Any suggestion about brand and price? My budget is around usd200-300. Currently I'm using a ciem for daily commute.

Not too slim, but I highly recommended the Headamp Pico Power.  Hopefully, you can find one used at a decent price.

Not trying to raise a storm but I'm surprised an amp is needed as my ZX100 has enough grunt to even drive a pair of Sennheiser 800s.  Some time ago I purchased a Fiio Mont Blanc12EA but find no use for it and was seduced into trying a Headstage but gave up on it.  As I posted some time ago about the only reason I see for an amp is lack of grunt for the headphones and, in that situation would opt to spend money on more sensitive cans.  IMHO the ZX100 is big enough without needing the added bulk and complication of a head amp, particularly if using it for commuting.

I just bought myself a ZX100 from the Sony shop in Auckland - it seems there is not much of a market for the higher end portable audio range so there was a NZ$200 discount

you mean the down-conversion to PCM? i do convert all my DSDs iso to PCM

I have some DSD/DSF files - why do you convert them to PCM? Is it for quality (playback conversion) reasons?

Because i can't discenr the differences between 24/176.4Khz vs DSD

Are there any advantages to converting DSD to PCM or Flac for playback on the ZX100? eg saving battery, sound quality?
