I really cannot understand the music that the young ones of today are listening to:

How is this considered good music?
I am sorry if you happen to be Billie Eilish fan but I totally cannot find myself to be listening to this kind of poorly produced music that has almost zero rhythm and the lyrics consist of just a few simple words that is sung in a very monotonous manner.

don't open this can of worms , as young puppies here with mediocre taste in music and huge egos will come at you like hounds on zombie virus :xf_cool:

i say live and let live , thanx to Internet there is music for every taste and awareness level

peace.

I've utilized FBI image enhancers to find out the WM1xM2 uses a 2900mAH battery, for reference Sony's last android DAP the ZX507 had a battery around half the size at 1500mAH and the prior model WM1x had a 1860mAH battery. While 2900mAH seems average, bear in mind Sony uses special low impedance batteries which are physically bigger for a given capacity, this has benefits for sound quality as well as battery life span. The battery in the WM1xM2 takes up the entire inside height of the chassis this time around, compared to Sony's previous DAP's which had the battery height significantly reduced by having to sit on the PCB. The WM1xM2 also has a more efficient SOC which helps battery life. As always on the audio side S Master HX is very efficient so screen and wifi will be the biggest battery drainers.

DSEE is also a battery drainer.
I test the battery life using walkman player with DSEE on/off.
When it is ON, the battery consumption doubles (2~3%/h->5~6%/h).

Absolutely. Which is why it is great to have the options available and tweak depending on whether you are listening close to a charging source or if you are on the road. When I am flying, I switch off everything and just use direct sound. :)

Let us know about your impressions again after your 1ZM2 completes its 200hours aging.
Today, the timer turned amber after 200 hrs of continuous play, and I am not gonna say the "burning" is over. Although the sound has changed in terms of becoming even more detailed and open, the real improvement is expected somewhere at the mark of 400-550 hrs. At least, that has been my experience with ZX2, ZX507, 1A, 1Z (owned twice and currently on the 3rd one) and three Astell&Kern SP2000, for the exception of DMP, which started to sound super airy at 960-ish). Worth mentioning that despite the larger capacitors on 1ZM2, my 1Z at 1200 hrs today sounds more airy than 1ZM2 at 200hrs at this point.

Greetings friends!
Are there any solution to the latency of the USB-DAC mode of WM1AM2/WM1ZM2 ?

I installed the sony audio driver and reduced the buffer size to 64. But it doesn't work.:slight_frown:

hmm...maybe I should not be in a rush to move up from my 1Z to a 1ZM2

Not a secret we pay thousands of $$$ often to get minimal sound improvements. This maybe the case with 1Z vs 1ZM2. Back in the day, my DMP-Z1 ($8,500) didn't sound any better than Astell&Kern SP2000 Vegas Gold ($3500) at 650 hrs burn-in time, until the DMP reached 960 hrs and literarily blew Astell away. As to 1ZM2, it sure is a better DAP than the original 1Z, having wider sound stage, better details, better out-of -the-box tuning and many other betterments. It just has to go thru a proper burn-in process to really shine.

@pdL389
Thanks for the additional details - nice to know.
I guess time again for my monthly question - where and when are these appearing in the States?
I believe Amazon Japan is also out of them?

Wow, 960hrs of burn in. So, you had it on continuous play for 40 days in a row or accumulated these hours after many months of listening? And remembering in details how it sounds out of the box? I just reached 200hrs on 1ZM2's BAL output and decided to put 100 on SE. And I can only recall that out of the box the sound was warmer and more congested.

It was on a continuous play for all that time. While in "burning" mode, I was running periodic comparisons of exact same soundtracks on the "burning" DMP against already "burned-in" 1Z and SP2000.

Interesting. That 1Z is more airy than 1ZM2. Not at all my experience even as the 1ZM2 is burning in. And my 1Z was bought when it was first released. So, I would not take that as a universal truth. Always best to have a listen yourself. In any event, it would of course depend on what you listen with. :)

Getting some time early Sunday morning with the 1ZM2 with the IER-Z1R. The TPU clear case has arrived. I think I will keep the stock leather case for when I travel and need the extra protection when I just throw it into my backpack. :)

I think once pass 200hours I feel the sound quality has reach a point where it starts to sound really good. What I felt is also very important is to keep your Walkman powered up. If it’s left powered down for longer periods(more than 1hour or etc), the Walkman will sound not as detailed. It requires abit of time before it regains musicality.
