SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Big question is whether @MrWalkman thinks these can be modded.

They could, if we would be able to get root access at least, but they're similar to ZX500/A100 even with Android 11 now, so I'm not sure we're gonna see something anytime soon.

I also can't really afford any of them right now.

So, as per red channel blue channel on the ZX507 no true bit perfect again except Sony App and maybe UAPP ? Look like that to you ?

Yes, I've seen some image about this, and the M2 players have different audio paths for the Walkman app and any other app.

Wondering what system on a chip they are using, hopefully more powerful than snapdragon 660 which the others are using

Something almost like on the ZX500/A100, maybe a little better.

Plus 6 years on and still no increase in internal storage space!! Can you imagine any other company doing that! I appreciate we stick in SD cards, but ...

The price went up quite a bit.

WM1A/Z M2 seems to have a Battery Care function now - ZX500/A100 doesn't have it.

Seems fair mind you, look at the improved battery life (up to 40 hours whaaaat) and streaming capability, plus inflation, its been 6 years.

I'd say all in all we're getting a good one. Better sound means this model may sound as good as the wm1az, ergo, it'd be the best DAP on the market (apart from the WM1azm2). I think there's a high chance this will be better than the top end AK DAP, with more battery life, a better UI, etc.

Not if the AnTuTu scores of 90,000 I saw posted in another thread is accurate. That's half the speed of the 660 in my HiBy RS6...

Is it possible that they compromise the chip's performance for longer battery life. 35-40 hours listening is amazing especially for Android DAPs with 1A/1Z sound.

UI experience: "Mildly sluggish, swapping between apps is a bit slow"

It seems what I suspected is true: They seem to use a slightly better SoC from NXP - ZX500/A100 also use a NXP SoC - though I don't think that it's really a big improvement over the ZX500/A100 one.

That's an impressive feature ... very interesting to go probably over 20 hours in "normal" hires use, quite unique on the market.

I don't know if it's only for the WM1ZMK2 or this feature concerns the WM1AMK2 too...

It's the same for both players.

Maybe, this can explain the announced 40 hours playing time for the WM1ZMK2 ?
