Where are you based? I bet you $2000 I don't

Why would I pay an extra 2K+ for a DAP when I prefer the sig/tunning of the 1AM2 over the 1ZM2 ?

We aren't all drawn in by price premium exclusivity, bling, marketing.

I can't be the only one that had time with both and preferred the lower priced sound signature! Sonywalkmanuser prefers the A too.

I saw used 1Z was still selling for $1700+. That's after the release of 1ZM2, 6 years after the release of 1Z...

I see one for $950-1100. I have a used 1z kmod ultimate for cheap 1700. There is a 1z kmod ultimate listed for almost a year now for 1800 and no one touch it.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that this gen components & tunning are the same (straight from Sony) and the slight change in Audio is due to copper case (maybe Kimber cable too).

When these were first launched in Japan initial feedback from buyers/listeners was more preferred the A sig too. It was even stated in the Sony engineering interview.

I don't pay more just because its monetary price value is higher with some soft, thin gold plating on copper.

But by all means, buy a Copper/Gold one if that's what you would like. I would suggest buying the one you like the audio from personally, which really needs you to hear both.

Personally I like the 1zmk2 better than all the daps I've own. Including the 7AE. Like you said price is relative and just go with what fit you best.

Haven't personally tested the 1Z (or either of the MK2's) but I did score my complete 1A last year for around 500€. For what it is I think that's kind of a bargain really. Going from my prior FiiO X5 mk2 to this has been a pleasure for real.

plus i'm guessing like the og wm1a, physical mods will come out that will surpass the z version

I am not a fan of the 1ZM2 due to weight. Sound wise, the 1ZM2 is clearly a more musical of the two and work better for my taste and preference.
