So, just a couple hours today listening and is the Japanese Sony 1AM2 worth £1K vs £320 I paid for my Hiby R5II? ...

Oh yes, purity, naturalness, cosy/warm, life in the dark spaces. From memory I'm liking a bit more than the 1ZM2.

Don't get me wrong, still love the Hiby and it complements the Sony nicely with different sound signature and a bargain for the £320 I paid.

I do... stops charging beyond 90% but in reality, it usually stops at around 87%

It seem the player start to get very warm when it hold the charging at 88% for a long time, say 30min.

Not sure if it's my xiaomi gan 60w charger issue.

So tonite I made some a/b comparison between my dear old Cowon pm2 and wm1a2, 3.5 jack, I must say wm1a2 is better in any way, bass is punchier and tighter, soundstage is wider and highs are more defined.
My complaint is about the player itself: it doesn't support .cue images, sacd iso not supported, embedded lyrics not shown.
I had to install Uapp, that is laggy reading from sdcard.

Anyway, the sound is superb!

I have Hi-Res streaming on. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I don't hear a difference between "Direct" and "DSD Re-Mastering". I prefer having DSEE so I've not used DSD Re-mastering enough to answer your question.

I have Battery Care on, so I always leave the house with 88% charge only. I'm using offline with downloaded Apple Music albums when outside the house, and by my calculations, with my use case (Hi-Res + DSEE on) with IEMs, it should last close to 30hrs.

Streaming would drop that down to around 10-15hrs.

I've not had any issues with the battery life. Definitely less of a worry/hassle than the 3Max I owned previously.

On kkbox high res streaming, dsee on, 88% to 10% last me ar 8hrs. Probably the screen time kill the batt fast.
