SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Ibasso doesn’t do any DSP like Sony, beside the PEQ. But once using Neutron player, you can enjoy all Neutron DSP. This is available on all AndroidOS. When doing the most extensively task with Neutron, upscaling to 368Khz and all to DSD , the player last about 8 hours
Guess there’s not going to be apples to apples comparison.

The new Walkman is also capable of using Neutron to do upsampling as well.

But If you switch off all DSP on the Walkman, it’s going to be 37 to 38hours of playback time for a typical offline playback user but that’s with the low power output for the Walkman.

How many hours are you getting with the DSP on?

Actually I don't really quite like how it sounds with DSP on.
I personally prefer Direct On.

So, with direct source, high gain, balanced out, the M2 work up to 38 hours confirmed ?

I would say, minimum 38hrs.
I am getting 4+hrs per 10% drop in battery.
Great! That makes more sense as it is using class D and very little output in comparison to the Dx300. Thanks for confirmations
Depends on battery care is switch on or not. 38hours on high res flac files is definitely achievable.

If using dsee ultimate and dc phase linearizer and battery care on, it’s about 20hours. I switch songs quite regularly so that might affect my battery playback time.

i think the Sony DSP sound is quite subjective.

My friend loves the sound of Vinyl Processor with DSEE Ultimate for his MDR-Z1R.

For me I prefer just using DSEE Ultimate with DC Phase Linearizer Type A std for my IER-M9.

The nice thing is Sony gives you quite a lot of DSP to customise the sound. I do think they have useful usage scenarios like in the case of DSD Remastering where one is looking for a smooth relaxing listening experience just before bed time where the music doesn’t have strong dynamics to keep you alert and awaken.

Sony also allows you to turn off these DSP sounds completely or mix and match as you like them.

between 175 and 200 hours, it's been pretty stable.
I have aged ZX2, ZX507 and now aging WM1AM2, they all seem to to follow the same curve of lesser noticeable improvements as the hours of ageing increases

Agreed. I feel that after 150hrs... nothing much changes...
I find that’s if you listen at regular loudness.

at 150hours ageing, If you try pushing the volume really high up(above 90 volume, high gain on my ier-m9) , there’s still a small hint of sibilant edginess in the vocals but this is already outside of safe listening volumes.

for the wm1am2, I find that high gain don’t seem to sound tonally different from Low gain. It doesn’t seem to add brightness to the sound like what I have heard in my zx507.

You can try comparing the sound of the wm1am2 using iems:

1/120 high gain
1/120 low gain

10/120 high gain
10/120 low gain

20/120 high gain
20/120 low gain

And etc (up to 46)

Aside from the changes in loudness, see if you can hear any differences in tonality.
