Been eyeing these for a long while and finally YOLO'd in to compare vs my LCD-2 closed. Am expecting more of a 'flavor difference' than anything else, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

OK, been listening for a while now. Signal chain is Spotify Premium HQ --> Topping E50 --> Lokius (bit of bass boost, touch of mids) --> THX 789 balanced (Arctic Cables ofc). I'm not terribly difficult to please and am not an EQ freak/frequency curve purist, so I tend to take a headphone and Lokius to taste.

Initial impressions: clearer sound than the LCD-2 closed out of the box, bass is a little bigger but still does a good job of not overwhelming the mids, soundstage is smaller, mids are a little more forward and as mentioned are not overwhelmed by by bass (not really an issue on the LCDs either IMO), treble is there with the clarity but far from piercing/unpleasant. Nice and easy to listen to though, and lighter on the head.

I like their look and feel, quite comfortable.

Still more listening but since bass is the priority out of this position in my stable, I'd say it is fairly lateral to the LCD and a different flavor. $900 is wayyyyyy too much given what's on the market these days, $600 is pushing it, $400-500ish is OK considering the quality feel and comfort.

Nice headphones but I'm going to send them back. Love the bass response and they're comfy, but while the LCD-2 closed doesn't quite give me the same bass rumble as the Sonys they do give me a wider stage, better imaging, more natural mids/vocals, and I feel like the resolution is a bit better in my rig. Had I purchased the Sonys first to fill my 'bass headphone' role I probably would have been perfectly happy keeping them, but that's not how it went down.

Final verdict: good choice for those looking for a light, sleek set that brings the bass without majorly sacrificing mids or treble, but only used or at sale prices. $900 is silly.

Hi Z7m2 owners, someone here a while ago posted an EQ setting suggesting it brings the sound closer to the Z1Rs. I never tried it until now.
I hear more mids and tiny bit more bass, but it loses more stage!

I'd love to hear thoughts on the subject for those interesed, here are the settings:
PreAmp= -5db
• 70Hz | +2.00dB | Q: 4.70 (Bell)
• 100Hz | -1.00dB | Q: 2.30 (Bell)
• 210Hz | +2.10dB | Q: 1.70 (Bell)
• 750Hz | -1.00dB | Q: 5.90 (Bell)
• 1120Hz | +2.30dB | Q: 2.75 (Bell)
• 2827Hz | +6.20dB | Q: 7.00 (Bell)
• 3210Hz | -9.90dB | Q: 9.30 (Bell)
• 4280Hz | +5.60dB | Q: 2.90 (Bell)
• 5515Hz | -8.00dB | Q: 6.50 (Bell)
• 7460Hz | +4.30dB | Q: 13.00 (Bell)
• 8955Hz | -5.10dB | Q: 14.00 (Bell)

I modded my pair of z7m2 for vibration mitigation and to minimize reflection of the cups. After modding and EQ, the sonic reproduction is much more refined. The vibration in the different areas of the headphone cause crosstalk and mask resolution.

From my experimenting, EQ after modding transformed these headphones.

Hart Audio cables work; I have one: you need to get one of the options here: https://hartaudiocables.com/collections/sony

Basically, Sony and Beyerdynamic (and probably others) use one pin-out on their 3.5mm connector cables, while Hifiman and Focal (and others) use a different pin-out. Just look for Sony compatibility or Beyerdynamic T1 compatibility.

Hi, I purchased the z7m2 a few months ago and I'm very happy with them, sounding great through the Fiio k7.
I enjoy the stock sound with just some EQ, but after reading about the mods cdacosta made and detailed in page 136, I wanted to give it a try to the damping mods.. the problem is, it seems fo.q TA102 and TA52/32 are out of stock everywhere and I even read somewhere else that it is discontinued :/
Can anyone reccommend a similar product that I could use for the same purpose?

Also for those who replaced the stock cable, what kind of improvements do you notice in the sound?

cdacosta's mod transforms the z7m2 into a much higher level headphone.

Unfortunately, foq has discontinued the tape. I don't think theres anything like it in existence unfortunately. It is the most amazing headphone modding tool compared to anything else I've tried.

If you do find something like it, I'd be very interested also.

Depends on which cable you pair it with. I have about 7 different cables I tested with it.

Stock cable vs moon audio silver dragon cable - more body, bass, cleaner bass, better resolution, detail, stage, imaging, pretty much everything improved a notch or 3.

silver dragon vs wywire platinum - wywires cable was more focus on the top end, cleaner throughout the fr, less body and warmth.
