Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread

Welcome Ramovnik, and nice reviews on ma900, I enjoyed the read. Also, can we turn ma900 into closed back ? like this:
Thx! It's possible, but not worth it, the closure of such a huge driver has a very negative effect on the tonal balance and soundstage, example-Z1R ore Z7. Same, if you close the he-6 cups, the sound will become nasty.

ALsoo, it’s not enough to just close the gril, would would also need to close off the gaping hole on the back side of the baffle to make it “closed”, IMO just get a Z7 if you want a closed ma900.

Finaly got Creative SB G3 Usb DAC, connected it with type-c to micro-usb 2.0 adapter to my Benq monitor in usb 3.0 slot. In games it's very fun for soundwhoring - opens ma900 soundstage very wide, if opponent is below or above you, it is very clear, probably as wide as my Asus Strix Soar PCIe, also low frequencies are warm and full with G3, watching talking videos or movies - you can hear when talker is breathing stronger to microphone while telling stories, letters p + t + b has more weight when spelled, voices are warm, movies sounds spacious, engaging, I like it, relistened multiple favourite songs on youtube, also loved how it sounds, I'd say a really great small DAC, doesn't bottleneck these cans. I'm sticking to this DAC for now, taking out and putting Soar back to shelf!

PS. 2 listings on ebay of MA900, from Russian and Japan, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-MDR...-Audio-equipment-Black-JAPAN-F-S/193401490348 ; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-MDR-ma900-ma-900-headphones-earspeaker-ma-900/293696992747

PS. 3 2020-09-10 tried round pleather earpads 100mm outside (56mm~ inner), still like the sound, looks a bit more tidy than 30mm thick ones, lol

I've heard these are as close as stock as you can get right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/182762478679
I got several of them from the exact manufacturer. They are not that close to the genuine ones, but yeah, that's the closest you can get.

They are a bit loose but they have the least changing to the sound signature.

Finaly paired it with Hidizs s3 24bit/192khz dongler, I loved it, laid back, bass opens up when the song has it, and extends in the quietest moments of song too, separation of instruments is clear, no EQ needed, is how i like it most, tried in FPS games (cs:go/quake) - soundstage is amazing. Seems like the better/newer source I get, the better it sounds

What earpads are those?
Looks comfy as hell!

Though I'm not sure I should invest anymore in my MA900s since they are creaky as hell. The plastics are making lots of noises here and there while moving just slightly.

Hi all! I strongly recommendation original pads from Audio-Technica AD2000 (not AD2000x) for the 12 Ohm version, and Dekoni audio velour pads Audio-Technica AD series for 24 ohms are excellent. Original pads MA900 its pure evil.
So will these fit? They say AD2000:

As long as you see pictures of the side which hooks up to the cups, you can evaluate if it will fit or not, you will realise.

100mm, they looked like least hair drops collecting, so i ordered, cloth only collecting too much hair and drops. Dunno mine never creaking, 7 years and going, slept on them, dropped them, stepped on them. :)
