Just got these awhile ago for a really good price, took a few days to get used to the sound as I almost never use headphones.
Coming from my XBA-N3, I can hear some similarities in the sound - deep bass, detailed but smooth treble.
The mids seems a bit recessed tho, fixed that with some eq.
Running these through the ZX300, high gain on the balanced output and it sounds really great, makes me feel as if I am right in the middle of whatever I am listening to.
They certainly aren't the most detailed pair out there, but I really can't put them down haha.

Interesting. I love my xba-n3ap and currently in the market for a closed back. I had gifted my k371 to my wife.

How close is the sound? And what differs? (from the sound POV).

Thanks man!

a1.jpg a3.jpg It took two weeks to get nearly 110 hours of burn in, but I must tell it was worth waiting. Performance is simply superb,

Presently using it with A25 Walkman.

1) Produces a dynamic powerful sound with thumping bass. Clarity and instrument details are top notch.

2) Easy to drive. Attains good volume with less effort. For most of the songs volume 14-16/30 is good enough.

3) Comfort is similar to MDR 100AAP

4) Vocals sound raw and unprocessed. It takes the centre stage, means it stands out with clarity.

5) Using it with my own EQ settings as shown in picture. DSEE HX – on.

6) Out of the box it sounded loud, bassy and less refined. It must be given proper burn in time to show its true talent. After 100 hours everything sounds good. Suits all type of music genres.

Comparative rating based on sound quality.

MDR 1AM2 – 10/10

MDR 100AAP – 8/10

HD 598SE – 6/10

I have plans to buy ZX300 in future and I think performance will be even better with that.

Finally I have to say that MDR 1AM2 headphone produces an addictive sound that once I put it on, won’t feel like taking it off.
Ritu, what presets (if any) are you using on your A25 Walkman.

I have 1am2 with A25 walkman as well and I am not enjoying the sound quality.

1am2 sounds much better connected to Ruizu A50.

Your feedback would be appreciated.

Just saw this, been quite busy recently.
They sound pretty close overall.
I would say that the 1AM2 has more treble, doesn't sound as dark as the N3's. Not the piercing kind, its just right.
The N3 has more intimate vocals, but its still plenty forward on the 1AM2. Certain male vocals sounded more present on the 1AM2.
Bass wise they are similar, deep and punchy.
Being a full size headphone, the 1AM2 sounds less cramped and more immersive.
Thats about all the differences I can think of.
Using the 1AM2 more at home nowadays.

There's finally a Wavelet preset for the MDR-1AM2. Not sure how I feel about it so far, will need to do some more testing.

I tried and kinda sound, thin?
Yeah, it feels like bass is sucked dry and the EQ sounds forced for this non-Harman headphone. It isn't too bad for some tracks though.

Loving my pair, great sound/price ratio. It's that time of year when I'm getting an itch lol. Was wondering what people would recommend as a step up sound wise from the 1aM2?
