Sony MDR-1A - Sony's latest update on the 1R

MDR-1A = MDR-1AB = MDR-1AS
MDR-1AM2 is supposed to be a different headphone but some have said its the same as a MDR-1A, it just is marketed at "high res"
MDR-1ADAC is a different headphone since it has a built in DAC

Ah, thanks for the info.

I'm actually considering one since I'd like a bassy dark headphone but the treble spike at 9-10kHz kind of puts me off.

The treble spike is not that offensive since most music has little info in the 9-10khz range unlike that HD700/HD800 that have the spike at 6khz where most tunes have a lot of info in this range

Just a PSA on the combination of Sony MDR-1A and V-Moda Boom-Pro. You need to unscrew the golden ring. (Warranty voiding probably)

Does anyone know the actual collar size? I am trying to find a replacement cable for the MDR-1A and most aftermarket cables have a wider collar than the receptacle on the mdr-1a

Try MDR-1A with Walkman A45. Bass is tighter, mids are clear and detailed, so are highs. Sounds as decent as hired reviewers claim.

Cable is thin just like cheap earphone cables. However changes sound dramatically rendering almost all crticism towards Sony MDR-1A into zero. Wider scene, tighter bass, textured and back from the distant rear mids and vocals, clear trebles. This cable is sold for 20 something bucks. The cheapest alternative is 60. Rush and buy to turn your beats-like teen headphones into audiophile device.
