Sony IER-M9 impressions thread

After a couple of days now, I'm still not convinced about that "weight", which still seems to occasionally overwhelm the mix (but it may also be Covid vaccaination side effects on my hearing). I am loving the broad soundstage otherwise, and picking the layering of instruments which hasn't been quite so obvious previously.

U can try kimber kable or fiio lc-re, dunu blanche. Im using fiio lc-re and very happy with it

I was using kimber cable with my M7, but it wasn't a great match. Mostly due to Kimber further taming the highs on already tame M7.
I switched to Z1R cable and it works much better with M7. Receiving my M9 today (hopefully) so will re-try different cables. Hope Z1R cable works well with M9, as its been the best sound/comfort/price proposal so far.

Regards

surprising enough I’m actually in the same city as you too! Just wondering where did you source the z1r cable?

The link I provided is for the balanced cable. If you are after the standard one, its also available for $109 dollaroos.

Regards
Cheers, I'll suss it out. I'm assuming the stock cables on both m9 and the z1r are pretty much the same? Correct me if I'm wrong, because it seems like both of them are silver plated ofc.

They are not the same cable. Z1R cable looks/feels more robust/premium, and it's considerably thicker. As I just took the delivery of M9 (20 min ago), won't be able to compare the sound just yet.

Yea aesthetically I realise they are not same, just trying to find out if the internal constructions are the same or not. Look forward to your updates. 👍

reducing the midbass could help, if you have a look at the existing presets for M9:
oratory1990
AutoEq
Toranku
all of them have this region around 100-300Hz reduced quite a bit.

They are standard 4mm nozzles - ie, likely the single most common size.

On the subject of tips, tried the Azla SednaEarfit Shorts today with great success, no suction, nice wide sound and lifts the treble but still nice bass. I'd say my favourite I've tested.

I just bought M9's from Japan. Very hard to find them in the UK here. Can anyone tell me if they have good synergy with DX 220?
Haven't heard a DX220 but it's a good powerful DAP so it should make the M9 sing.
