We're about to start offering a limited number of Sony headphones, and we are curious if you have any recommendations on great sounding Sony cans.

Which ones be they?

The Sony 7506 and 7509 are great cans. IMO both are underrated on Head-Fi.

However, everybody under the sun sells them. Would it make sense for Headroom to sell them?

I liked the PFR V1, but you'd have to have pretty low pricing for most to consider it since there aren't many members with them even though they're selling for $250 at J&R (Or is it BH Photo?)

Tyll - some of us really love the MDR-SA5000. I've seen conflicting reports over whether Sony still manufactures it, but I think it deserves more listeners here. It deserves to be recommended along with the HD-650, K-701 and DT880.

Please also consider the MDR-7509HD. I'm one of the few people here who own one and I've been impressed with it. It deserves more attention and more representation here.

You should definitely carry the venerable MDR-V6. Along with the SR-60i, it is one of the very best entries to good headphones. If you can swing a good price on the V6, a lot of newbies will give them a try.

While they aren't Sonys, how about asking Beyerdynamic for the DT48? They're developing a following here and I'd love to see your measurements for them. I think the only other US distributor is B&H, so it would be nice to see HeadRoom pick them up, too.

If you do decide to carry the V6/7506's, you should also have the Beyer DT250 velour pads in stock. This is an instant upgrade, and a no-brainer upsell. Maybe even create a value-added "bundle"?

Hmmmm....

SA1000/3000/5000..
7506/09.... Like many others said..

XB300, 500 and 700 are quite good for bass lovers. I personally find 700 outperforms Beyer DT770 in terms of bass quality and overall sound quality as well.

I'd definitely recommend the MDR 7506 .... tremendous bang for the buck. With all the cans I have, I'm still impressed with them. The MDR-V6's are supposed to be pretty much the same cans, but a consumer version.

I recently got the MDR 7509HD's and I've been disappointed with them. One's mileage varies, I guess.

Tyll,

If you do carry any of the full-sized Sony Headphones with 50mm 24-Ohm drivers (e.g. MDR-XB700), do advise potential buyers that they need an amp in order to avoid sounding thin or murky even though they produce ample loudness out of a gutless portable player. This is because extra-large drivers with very low impedance ratings are a very tough load on cheap headphone outs. (Or put it this way, those particular models will be more than loud enough out of a gutless portable but will not sound anywhere near as good as they are potentially capable of unless amped.)
