That's quite true, I found the isolation of the 1R to be good, but not above average, especially for a portable phone.

I thought the isolation was horrible. But the flipside is that the clamp is very, very light making them comfortable to wear for an extended period of time.

+1 for this, although I wouldn't say the isolation is horrible; more like below-average for a closed-back headphone. Want horrible? Go for an open-back headphone.
They are by-far one of the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried.

Left channel of the 1R just went dead... yes I checked on multiple devices, and also used different cables.

Time to return to Amazon...

That sucks... Well let me recommend the ATH WS99. Check out the thread about them. They say they're much better (subjectively of course) than m100, 1r, momentum, etc. That's if your interested in other cans though.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm always open to new options. I don't think I'l repurchase the 1R. I was going to keep them, but the build quality just has me questioning them now. Plus the 7520 was just annihilating them, like Mayweather beating up a 5 year-old. I think I'll just have my 7520 as my portable cans, which I wanted to avoid because they're too nice to take out and throw them around, but oh well, the cups are magnesium alloy. They can probably take more of a beating then most cans.

looks like Sony is getting rid of inventory on the 1R.  It's $100 OFF on Sony Style and deeply discounted everywhere else online.

Save $100 until April 27th promotion, Sony run promotions like that from time to time, not sure it should be indicative of "getting rid of inventory", but surely a good time to grab a pair for a great price.

On the other hand for MDR-X10 it could be the end of the lifetime http://store.sony.com/c/Sony-Headphones/en/c/S_Headphones?SR=nav:electronics:personal_audio:audio_headphones:headphones:ss

How do the NCs sound in relation to the original 1Rs?

When was the 1R released? It seems like it was only just released over the summer and they're ready to move on already. For $200 I would consider them, but for the original $300, I'll pass. $138 is a great deal.

I believe Tyll beat you to it. He put it on the wall of fame because it's only $199 at the moment. I bought mine from Amazon for $184 (new, sold by Amazon) But the left driver is dead now, so I guess it's not really a win win. Sony needs to stop screwing around and just bring back a modern version of the R10 for under a thousand and just pwn all the other audio companies left and right.

Why such a a large decrease in price? They must have a large supply.

Well I guess these are in competition with a broad range of cans, starting from the m80 and ue 6000 to the m100 and momentum. I forsee a decrease in price for the momentum and m100 soon.
