Yep, they most certainly have the looks of a flagship.
Knowing Sony, it'd sound at least decent if it is supposed to be the new IEM flagship. I wonder if the price would justify its cost though. :p

EDIT: They also look... gigantic. o_O

Here's a frequency response graph courtesy of Sonove:

Are the shells made of plastic? Sure they look very fancy, but the materials used may not be...

Sony hasn't specified what is used for the housings, but apparently the EX1000's driver uses a liquid crystal polymer diaphragm.  It remains to be seen how that may affect the sound.

Anyway, as interesting as the EX1000 is, I'm actually looking forward to the monitor-like MDR-EX800ST a bit more.  It's also nice that the EX800ST is more affordable.

I remember reading it somewhere that the housing is magnesium alloy. That peak on the 6K is almost 10dB high and already reminding me how much I hate the sibilance on EX700

D'oh!  I actually started thread that described the driver and housing materials.  My memory is failing me!

And I'm not surprised by the frequency response, which is part of the reason for my interest in the EX800ST.

The EX800ST was released on the 18th for ¥25200.  The EX1000 is set to be released on the 23rd for ¥61950, though it seems they are already available as Sonove's post implies.

Here's a rather lengthy first impression review of the EX800ST (which I have yet to read): SONY MDR-EX800ST 聞いてみた:長く付き合いたいです: FAF特殊戦第5飛行戦隊装備班

Wow, quite a long impression

Can someone summarize it in brief words

Wow. They look stunning. So did the EX700's, but they were an enormous disappointment. I really hope these aren't that great either, or else... I may be so much poorer. Heh.
