Sony announces the "Just ear" brand of custom IEMs
Jun 6, 2023 at 10:45 AM Post #451 of 471
Hey guys so I don't think I will be able to do the Japan trip this year. However, I did end up getting a used pair of custom Sony Just Ear XJE-MHW1. Does anyone know of any third-party reshellers that are really familiar with the Just Ear line of CIEMs. Want to keep the tuning and everything the same. Was thinking of getting the pair re-shelled and have the acrylic be black to match the NW-WM1Z to have a black and gold color scheme going on.

I wish you good luck.................but have to be frank - that's a very, very tall order. I can't imagine that being possible with the Just Ears, or even if someone is willing to risk doing it the sound would be far from the same as the original.

Now Just Ears HK launched with the custom part dropped. Good YT vids with CC in Chinese enable are out, so I watched these with English auto-translate.

when i ordered my mh1 in japan, i asked matsuo bandai san how come the demo ver and the finished product have such vast difference in shell size/volume. he told me the tuning of just ear has nothing to do with the shell but depends on the length of sound tube and the filtering material used. the shell is only made to fit comfortably and securely/aesthetically pleasing in specific ears. my own inference from here is reshelling without affecting the tube length and filtering material will not affect the sound.

there's more than one vendor in hk saying they can reshell just ear (e.g. lear) i never use their products or have any knowledge of their quality. and quite frankly, there's some bad feedback floating around. so be careful to evaluate the risk before going on. also they might not be able to receive overseas order.

just received my re-issue of LiSA tuning today :relaxed: sadly the special ver jacket and signed postcard were not yet ready.

much stronger bass then my listening ver and there's less sense of spacious in the music. i love the sound which makes me think of fitear titan but i doubt this is suitable for people looking for excellent resolution/details. very strangely, the shell was much bigger than my old one! ear impressions were made by the same audiologist though. fit and isolation are just so so - fitear definitely are much, much better here. hope my mh1 will be better . . .

updates: just got the special ver jacket and the signed post card :k701smile:

finally collected my mh1r! the fit is so much better than the two previous sets of justear which the ear impressions were made in HK. the sound is very close to what i recalled i heard and preferred during the tuning session.

i really don't need another pair of iems for a long, long time to go :relaxed:

Would it be possible to go to Japan, place and order, get the impression done and they than ship it to an overseas address?
No they don't ship overseas. But they don't require residence to order like fitear either. So u can have a friend in Japan to collet it for you or a Japanese address to receive the order. I think even a forward service address is ok.

It looks like everybody is using the stock cable with the Just Ear?
I was wondering if it could benefit from an upgrade and which material of cable?
Do you think that the Orphy could be a good match?
Asking because I'm planning to order a pair of Just Ear beginning of next year while in Japan and I have a PW Orpheus (that would need to be reterminated)
Thanks

I don’t think you can have a friend to collect them, when you collect them, they need to tweet them and adjust them.

You can always order them from countries which isn’t that stricted, Hong Kong also sells them.

No need to collect in person. I had my son who went to Tokyo that week to pick up for me. And they're willing to ship to a local address too. But they did recommend to collect in person to have the final fitting and adjustment as you said. I wished to go too but just can't take leave during that period sadly.

Also, overseas ADs only sell mh2 and other special preset tuning vers. mh1r is only available through Tokyo hearing though.

I seen this in HK, but lost interest, as it seems too big for me, I got the IER M9 instead.

How can a CIEM be too big? You mean it takes up too much space in your pocket, or?
