Maybe a special firmware for people using only IEMs would be good, and power consumption might be reduced even further.
Straight from my laptop max volume with sensitive iems is usualy 10/100.
So I upgraded my firmware from v1.1 to v1.2 NAS tonight.
I noticed in the USBView the following line:
MaxPower: 0x4B (150 Ma)
now says:
MaxPower: 0x31 (98 Ma)
So here's hoping the battery drain is improved.
A quick test with Neutron player indicates that output has indeed been reduced. I used to listen at half volume, but now I'm listening around 60-70%, which seems fine.

Thanks for this. We might be able to predict battery life off of these numbers.
For example, the iPhone 5c has a 1510 mA*hour battery and gets about 8 hours of average use from that based off of reviews. If my math and unit analysis is right,
1510 mA*hours / full charge * full charge/ 8 hours of use = 188.75 mA continuous current draw
Now, if we add a 98 mA additional current draw on the battery, that would theoretically lower the battery life to 8 hours * (188.75)/(188.75 + 98) = 5 hours, 15 minutes. This assumes maximum power use (and the mS might not use maximum power all the time).
So, yes, the mS will lower the use time of the iPhone.
By the way, it is surprising that you got the mS to work with the original firmware. I'm guessing that the mS didn't need 150mA when it was first plugged into your iPhone, so you didn't get the "too much power" error message for >100 mA. That says the mS current draw is probably not the maximum all the time, and so the battery life will be longer than the above numbers suggest.
I have the newest regular firmware on my mS, IIRC. I would not be concerned about the NAS version for iDevice compatibility (which is why I flashed mine).
I also didn't check the standard 1.2 firmware because the website appeared to imply the NAS version was the low powered version. Then again it is a pretty terrible website!
Just to mention that the combo Mad dogs/micostreamer works very well.
Still I would like to compare this HRT with ODAC/O2. If anybody would have an idea....
I just picked up a pair of Sennheiser HD800's. I have been listening the the MicroStreamer from JRiver Media Center to the HD800's and to my Stax 407 setup. This little DAC is really very impressive, especially for the price.
I also have an AK120 that I can use as a USB DAC also and even though the AK120 is better, it's not that much better...

For anyone who is getting glitches with USB Audio Recorder PRO with the HRT Microstreamer, could you please try and install this version (this is for people who have purchased it only) :
What is from your experiences the battery lifetime when listening music with microstreamer(latest firmware) atttached to (iphone/ipod touch/android phone) ?
Having just recently purchased a Synology NAS raid device ot keep our home computers and my college students notebook PCs backed-up on a real time basis, your answer of "Network attached storage" was the last thing I was expecting, considering we are talking headphones!
"The microstreamer only net 98mA", Could you be a bit less criptic? So, woohoo, the Microstreamer only needs 98mA? How in <blep> does that help me deterimine if I need the NAS 1.2 firmware or just the 1.2 firmware?????
