The BD34301EKV DAC chip, developed as part of ROHM’s high-grade MUS-ICT™ series representing the pinnacle of audio ICs, emphasizes ‘spatial reverberation’, ‘quietness’, and ‘dynamic range’ – qualities important for reproducing classical music. Original sound quality design technology makes it possible to successfully reproduce the target sound quality by incorporating a circuit in the signal processing block to check for audio quality. At the same time, class-leading low noise and distortion (130dB SN ratio, -115dB THD+N) provide the high performance demanded by high fidelity audio equipment. At last, the customizable digital filter – a key function of the digital signal processing circuit – supports the creation of the ideal sound sought by audio equipment manufacturers.

I took a chance and bought this SMSL D 300 DAC to see if I could improve the sound of my Bluesound Node (2021). It turned out to be a very good decision. Much more dynamic with a better high end response. The sound stage is fuller with more definition and detail. The bass is stronger and more textured. Individual double bass notes are clearly defined when playing jazz. When I switched from RCA to XLR cables, there was yet another improvement in sound quality. Now, I can't compare with other DACs other than the Node, but for me, it's awesome. I understand some folks don't like the way the dials and buttons work on the front panel, but I can't comment as I just use the Node to control everything.

Just got mine yesterday. Loving the sound BUT the remote refuses to work unless I am not more than 2 feet away and aiming directly at the screen. To make matters worse, the dealer is now out of stock so replacement may become a long wait here in India....

EDIT: The remote handset accidentally switched on my remote controlled table fan from over 10 feet away. Obviously its not the remote handset at fault but the infra receiver in the dac.

Just ordered one from Amazon. Does the D300 work in DAC mode so I can adjust the volume with my headphone amp?
In the settings you choose either fixed or variable mode. In my setup I use fixed and therefore able to use the controls from my Bluesound Node to control everything. So, that should be the same with your headphone amp. Enjoy.

Just took delivery of mine today, excellent unit but when I play DSD natively I get nothing but white noise. I've reinstalled the drivers etc but still no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

I just tester mine and it's good pointed at the unit to 10 feet. You might try unplugging the table fan to see if its giving you interference.
Good to know. Guess I got a lemon as far as the remote is concerned. The dealer promises to replace it once he is back in stock with the d300. Nope, no interference from the fan. Same story with the fan unplugged. Tried the dac in different rooms as well.

I had that issue because it was set to dop in dac settings in roon. Seems it won't do dop. Just native dsd. So in case you are sending it a dop stream, don't!
