I thought the other king was the M50 not the WS70! :)

The M50s are not so good for classical or jazz, they are great for what they can do but i dont consider them well rounded at all.  The d1k, the 750dj and the ws70 play every genre very nicely.  The ws70 not so much on classical but for sure nicer than the m50.

the ws70s are more enjoyable than the m50s IMO.

These are great headphones, they sound very good out of my Powerbook G4 (oldoldold) and even better when amped with tubes. The tubes smooth out some of the peaks.

In trying to decide between these and the SRH840s, I chose the 840s because I had read from various posters/reviews that they probably have better staging (mostly due to the larger cups).  Anyone want to comment on the 750dj soundstage?

I think they're amazing too. The bass is the best part. What kind of music are you interested in?

were you asking me?

If so, I think the bass is a bit overwhelming just like the box tells you on the ws70.  I listen to mostly rock/metal.  I'd say
75% rock and metal - Eric johnson, Guthrie Govan, Marco Sfogli, Shawn Lane
15 $ jazz - Bireli Lagrene, Django, Stochelo Rosenberg, Benson, Chuck Loeb
5% classical - really only things by john williams, superman/indiana jones, best of star wars
5% mixed latin and anything else

what in your opinion makes the D1001 and 750DJ better for classical and jazz than the M50?  actually, there were some impressions posted about the D1001 said that they are more muffled sounding and less refined overall comparing to the M50.
I heard that the 750 should be nice..but if their highs and mids don't bloom (extend) more than the M50 than i see no reason why they will be better for classical.

I think the Shures handle classical better than any of those listed so far.  The D1k is my least favorite out of the bunch.  The m50 is much more enjoyable than the D1k, it also handles any genre of your choosing better than the D1k ( my opinion )

The shures are bassier than the M50s, a much deeper experience IMO, a warmer tone to the bass.  I dont think you can go wrong with either, but the M50 is more widely accepted and better reviewed.

the DJ750 bass response is really huge by the graph.    the m50 bass is already too much, but still acceptable in order to not ruin the sound.   by the way it seems that M50 should be better for classical because the fact they have less bass.  i still need to listen to the shures to confirm this..so i am not sure.
although the 750's mids seem a little better, the bass issue here is more relevant imo.
