Is there anything I can do to improve on these?
I know of padding out the cups, and I've a better headband coming.

Any suggestions on a decent cable?

What headband did you get? I have had mine for a bit over three years and the headband is a bit squished.

I recently bought a balanced cable for use with my M11P and it is a huge improvement. However, I think that’s more to do with the M11P design.

Do you recommend the Shure SRH1540?

I am looking for a good over ear headphone to pair with Dragonfly Cobalt.

I've only ever had IEMs, so I don't even know what to choose now between open back and closed back.

I like the isolation but wouldn't want to lose in SQ.

Budget around € 300, looking mostly used.

I could have a Sennheiser HD 660 S for 300 € or the SRH1540 for 230-240 €.

I listen to different genres, from the most intimate folk to extreme metal, rock, pop, ambient, electronic.

I like a fairly neutral sound, not too bassy but not too bright and tiring. Very natural timbre, good soundstage and technicalities.

I hope the sound matches your expectations. I ended up going with lqi cable but they're all copper

Since my Nightowl broke and you can only get it very difficult and expensive, I bought the Shure used.
The sound comes very close to that of the Nightowl. I immediately swapped the pads for the Brainwavz Hybrid.
The stage is much wider than that. But everything else is not so great. That's why I ordered the Brainwavz Sheepskin. I'm curious.

I like the Shure. I'm surprised how good it sounds.
