I'm glad that my impressions of the awesome UE18 PRO somewhat mirror yours, as I was only able to demo them (and you own them outright).  I feel that the universal UE18 PRO had great separation and presentation, but the quality and intensity of its bass was still lacking compared to my SE846 with SCS.  I'm sure the custom version would have a little better bass.  Overall it was my favorite IEM of the head-fi meet a couple of weeks ago.  Also, the modded black filters of the SE846 (almost like the white filters) opened up the treble/higher frequencies that the blue and black filters automatically veil.  What color SCS do you have?  Any pictures?

I have the pink color. Mine is the "modified" sleeve. Shorter bore.

If I'm not mistaken, that 'pink' color looks like it is just the clear/opaque color. Is it officially clear/opaque or Crystal Pink? I do know that the clear/opaque SCS/Sensaphonics CIEMs I saw in person didn't look exactly clear, as they had a slightly rusty hue to them.

Disclaimer on the modified shorter bore: if you have the SCS and have any fit/feel/isolation issues within 30 days of receiving them, Sensaphonics will make refits for you, free of charge. Modifying them in such a way will void the warranty if they request you send back the custom sleeve(s) for a refit.

The custom sleeves are the only thing your ear will feel, and since the silicone is your actual ear mold, it should just feel right, that is, if your custom sleeves fit perfectly. The earphone housing will not (should not) be touching your ears at all, but will not look far away from your ears because the SCS changes the position of the earphone housing in a way that is the most slim, as well as the most aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

Thanks for the info. So basically the scs fits more or less into the area occupied by the 846 w/o the scs's and the 846's are moved a little bit further out? Not too concerned about looks, just the fit

Not in my opinion. However, every ear is different. I would suggest looking at the multitude of photos that Monty and I posted of the SCS in our ears in my review to give you the best 'look' of how it sits, and make your decision on how they look that way. If you still aren't able to tell, then I don't know what to tell ya.

Below are a bunch of shots of me and my SCS if you click on the picture the get biiger and more detailed. Hope this helps.
Note that with mine the 8s actually sit outside my ear. With the SCS mating to my inner and outer ear. I think that the smaller your ears the more the 8s protrude for your ears as again it is the SCS in the ear and the 8s inside the first 1/3 of the SCS

FYI regular cleaning and care and perhaps my pH has kept my Flesh SCS pristine and free from discolouration

OTO Ease and/or H2O based "personal lubricant" is your friend especially for longer term wearing

(above)I like this shot

The last shot is of me returning from a long "hike" with the SCS in - all aglow and happy, telling Smithers how comfortable I am and how good they sound  .... EXceeelent

Nice shots, is oto ease just sterilised water?

Oto Ease and every other lubricant of its type is called water based lubricant. There are extra ingredients in these these types of lubricants to give it a viscous, slippery feel, but is safe to use with silicone or latex, as using a non water based lubricant like Pjur's original silicone based lubricant will break down silicone and latex based products.

anyone know where I can get a good discount for this pair of earphones. I looked around but couldn't find anything respectable...

Call places and bargain with them. Check this thread, as earlier people posted their favorite places they purchased their SE846s from.

Negotiate. Or second hand, provided good condition and from authorised dealer. Depreciation on audio is high. Evidence: see Classified here.

Anything else may be a false economy. You risk buying fakes and even if not, there is no warranty support with non authorised dealer.

No Oto Ease is H2O based lubricant. Not onlydoes it aid in insertion but one tiny drop is spread around the outer ear shell it is almst like synovial fluid in the joints. especially if they are in your ear for more than one hour.
Thanks Monty, that's a big help. Wait a minute....... The Mr. Burns in the last picture has longer hair than the other pics! - what nefarious scheme  are you trying to pull?????

No that is me in the Picture I buzz what little hair I have every week or two. I left it a bit longer, almost three weeks wen that last shot was taken.

You mean the picture of you surrounded by the green haze? That's the one I was referring to

. I thought maybe you'd been kidnapped by your ape "friends" and a substitute had been planted in your place........
