Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

The TW2 is actually cheaper on Amazon with a pair of 215's. I assume the TW2 paired with the various IEM's is no different so it kinda makes sense for me to get a "free" pair of 215's with them rather than on their own.

Looks like I will have to go down the route of getting some TW2's then :frowning2:
Just fyi. The ones that come with the 215 are TW1. Unsure what is different.

You will be pleased though, the tw2 are really good, especially for pair that doesn’t even support ldac. Doesn’t win from my ifi
Gryphon combi, but the tw2 really does a good job
While TW2 does a good job preserving clarity it still loses the dynamic punchy energy you get from wired due to Bluetooth - I’m using Apple dongle and original Shure cable on my 846s.
I was switching between cable and TW2 for a while and got scared of breaking the Mmcx connectors, then remembered I have a pair of 535s sitting in the drawer! This is where the Shure play app comes in, with excellent eq I’ve been able to revive my 535s with added bass, highs and a slight 3.125k boost - still nowhere near the 846s but I’ve probably saved my prized latter by doing this! So yes the TW2s do rock.

On the cable front I tried a lightning to Mmcx cable from Ali X and it crapped out the 3rd time I used it. Back to the harder Shure cable :frowning2:

I agree regarding bluetooth dynamics. The ifi gryphon wins hands on easy in ldac from the tw2 in bluetooth, but the moment you switch to usb-c cable connection the sound quality changes instantly on the gryphon And that difference is big! Bluetooth not even ldac or aptx-lossless can replace usb cable connection.

And constantly switching between the tw2 mmcx and cable connection is not a smart thing I think either. I only use the tw2 now and than, 95% I listen to cable trough the ifi gryphon, with usb or bluetooth. Maybe I
Can find a good deal for a second hand se846 deal somewhere for the tw2

For the gym I use airpods pro, better suitable and less expensive.

Are you sure? The description lists them as TW2 with the 215's but I definately don't want the TW1 if that's what really comes with them.

I don’t know about the UK listing but I ordered it here in the US and it was definitely TW1. The app and sku on the box was all TW1.

About the bundles I don’t know, worth taking a good look wether it’s TW1 or TW2.
But the TW2 still uses the same charging case, which is still referencing TW1, so that’s not a problem but normal.

I’ve had mich better tonal results with selecting SE215 in the app when configuring the TW2. According to Shure this does not apply any EQ but only sets the volume though — with the SE846 it was much too quiet for me.

App references TW2. When I had the 215 with TW1, it stated so there.

Much to quiet with the se846??? For godsake what volume are you listening to!?? You want a garantee of 100% of hearing aid in a few years time? Don’t mean that as a insult more as a shock?

With my AirPods Pro 2 my iPhone says about 68dB, so I don't think I'm too prone to listening at ear splitting levels. I used the SE846 setting on the TW1 as far as I remember, configuring the TW2 the same as soon as I received them... and was treated to a rather lifeless experience, with which I lived for some time, with growing frustration. Then I changed the setting to SE215, and my SE846 was back to the full sound I was used to. So this was not about the available max volume, but the expected output at my preferred setting. And no, I don't crank the volume up to 11

I worked many years as a live sound engineer on the side, so I'm quite aware of issues with too high SPL. Always used custom hearing protection from Neuroth on location or when DJing. One reason I like the SE846 is its high level of passive isolation btw., which lets me enjoy music in loud environments without increasing volume.

May I kindly ask that, did anyone here successfully purchased the extended nozzles before? It could either from Audio Sanctuary or Shure.

I wrote a complaint letter to Shure at end-October, about they keep changing their stance on nozzles selling. They finally replies me today. The main idea is that ONE staff conveyed the incorrect information to me, and the nozzle is not for sale in the worldwide.

In fact, there are TWO staffs, different positions (Application Engineer, and Customer Care Specialist), and different countries (Canada, and the US) claimed that customers can order the nozzles by directly contacting the Parts Department.

So if there are someone who able to purchase the extended nozzles before, it would be grateful that you could leave a comment here. Thanks you.

Same here. I set it to Aonic 215 to get the volume up. It also works well if you set as 535, basically anything other than 846! Maybe due to impedance? I don’t know, but I complained to Shure about this and they gave me a brush off answer.
One other trick - if you stream Spotify or Apple Music is to turn off volume normalization or sound check.

You owned the SE846 Pro or UNI, not the Gen2, right?

How did you do that? Via email or phone call?

Shure originally told me that the nozzles are for sale (but only in Canada, or USA) in September. Since then, they said that it is not for sale in the worldwide.

I provided all the screenshots for proof, but they tries to find excuses and says the information was wrongly conveyed by one staff of their team. (As mentioned in the previous reply, I asked them twice, and two staffs from different positions and countries confirmed that it can be purchased)

Now I feel totally disappointed on the customer service of Shure. The nozzles just cost 20 pounds. On a company side, instead of avoiding responsibility, the better solution of this matter is to sell the nozzles to customers who inquired before. But they turn out insist that it is not for sale, we are sorry about that, bla bla bla…

What a company? LOL

Yeah I don’t understand it. I just called the number on their website and placed an order, the same as any other spare parts; at that time they were on back order but they shipped a week later.
And yes mine are 2020 gen 1s.
Sorry to hear this. Sounds like they’re trying to stop people getting the cheaper gen1s and adding these 20 quid filters - basically turning them into gen 2s for much less!
FWIW the blue filter still sounds great and I find my ears quickly adjust to tonality differences anyway, but I’m also happy with the red filters :)
