Shure SE846: A New In-Ear Flagship From Shure. Finally! (Impressions p26-28)

I cannot speak to the quality control issues but with the low impedance of the iPod touch 5 it pairs beautifully with the SE846.

IPod touch 5th gen is the best standalone DAP I have heard with the se846 till date. If anyone doubts the SQ of the SE846 because it doesnt sound good, I would encourage you to listen to it through the iPod Touch 5th gen (not those earlier gen)

Wow I've never heard of this. Should try wearing my old SE535s in my ears and my new SE846 in my nose. I guess sound really conducts through your whole head?

Excellent idea! This would be the ultimate setup to *finally* get to listen to those 4 channel 'Surround Sound' recordings I haven't been able to enjoy since switching to IEMs...

I understand that the SE846 are in a different category pricewise. However, after returning the UE900..... that I found too dark and flat compared to my beloved Triple fi s out of my Ipod Touch 5th.....

I would like to know how does the SE846 compares with the Triplefis with the balanced and the treble boost filters.... Thanks

For the acoustical engineers out there and the sleep challenged here is a link to the patent application for the low pass filter filed by Shure with the US Patent Trademark Office: http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=Shure&OS=Shure&RS=Shure

Finally! That's great news. Where did you order it from? I have been looking at addictedtoaudio.com.au but it isn't in stock yet...

I had to bite the bullet and get it on ebay from Japanese seller. It wasn't that high compared to what the Australian seller was asking.

In the end I'm happy about it. So much better than SE 535...

After a second audit with 846, I have got to say, it completely blown my 535 off the water! the bass is visceral and impactful! the soundstage is wider with acoustic in the background! most of all, the mids are a lot clear than my 535! my 535 sounded muddy when compared with the pristine sound of 846!

That took a while. (-.-")
If the 535 is better than the 846, shure would be marketing doofuses.

Well I have no idea why another one was started when this is and will always be the original one. I think the mods wouldn't exactly take much notice since this thread is quite old and not very active anymore.

Cheers!

The reason there are two threads is because there were quite a few posters complaining that there were so many pages prior to the release of the actual IEM. There were also posts insisting that when the 846 was released that a new thread be started because they hated all the "waste of time" talk in the original thread.

Interesting that I don't recall reading the "there's too many pages" bitterness in the many pages of the Roxanne thread. It too has an original and impression thread, however.

Hey Truck did you get your replacement SE846 back from Shure?

Hey Truck did you get your replacement SE846 back from Shure?

UPS made a strange delivery attempt yesterday. I call it strange because I was at home all day and I didn't hear the doorbell ring or a knock. I was taking the trash to the curb and saw the notice attempt sticker on my door. In the past (with the 535 delivery), they simply dropped it off at the door and left. Because of the value of the 846, they insist on a signature.

I don't know how the UPS driver manage to slip in and out undetected. The first time the 846 was delivered my (oh, lets call her "inquisitive") neighbor step outside her house next door (“to water her shrubs”) and signed for my package.

If I were paranoid, I'd say the UPS driver wanted to demo my 846. All he had to do was ask, geez. But yeah, I'm waiting on it today.

I suspect Shure sent it immediately and I probably should have received it days ago but UPS really underestimated this holiday rush and are still delivering items meant for Christmas.

Thanks for asking Spook. I can't wait to hear if they sound like the first day I got them previously. If so, that will close the chapter on “burn in” for me. I'm going to lose the quotation marks. I'm going to consider it a real thing.
