Hey Head fi,
I'm choosing between these two iems but I am unsure which one would be better. I listen to rock, electric and dubstep. I have a iphone 4s paired with a fiio e7 amp/dac.

Not too sure about the UE900, but i have the SE535's. Looks like your music genres are more high-mid centered and the SE535 has ball busting mids. My impression is that the UE900 has better bass. But overall, go with yr gut feeling. Mine said 535 over Westone 4Rs and ive never looked back

Actually. there is. the Red one has a higher frequency then the bronze/clear version. i guess that results in better highs without that roll off thing everyone is talking about. ive never tried the red one though so cant be of good help...

Yes definitely get the red 535s, the roll off is gone completely, bass & high frequency is stable and robust!
 
overall i enjoy my red 535s everyday, i'm glad i made the spurge!

I now have the time to make a back to back comparison between my 425s silver and red 535s.
I only can say the difference is only 10 percent!
535s are louder, forward, warmer and sometimes muddling sound, the bass is intense which drowns the mids is a drawback and a bit airier.
The 425s are less intensive, cold and quite laid-back, the mids are clearer to detect, bass is less tense, downward sort to speak.
 
All I can say the 535s is like having a theater in your ears, whereas the 425s is like having a subtle loud speaker in your ears.
 
all and all, i cannot say which is better, they all offer their unique signature sound.
 
i'm keeping both...

I haven't heard the 900 but did like the 530 I had. The 535 does not have more extension. It's actually a smoother tuning to make them warmer and sound more extended with the upper mid/lower treble being less prominent. I don't think the drivers changed. Just a different filter and build. I'm in the minority but I preferred the 530 to my 535 audition.

I can only go by extensive time with both 530 and 535 (I currently have both) to say the 535 is better by more than a little bit. The soundstage is bigger and deeper to my ears along with better sounding everything.
 

 
 
 
I think the previous poster was saying the red LTD edition has the extended highs. I'm going to go to InMotion and try them soon. Currently I am comparing the title of this thread (535 and UE900). Well actually, I have the clear 535 (not the  bronze 535), but both 535s do have the same sound. I want to see how different the reds are.

Have both the bronze 535 and UE900.  Definitely prefer the UE900 between the two.  Listened to Rush's 2112 on both yesterday and the UE900s clearly sounded better.

The UE900 has a rather thinnish and smallish sound, but very nice with good clarity. The 535 is thicker and bassier with a larger sound-stage.
 
To me, the UE900 sounds best with the tips that were originally on them when I opened the box. Using those same UE tips on the 535 produced a similar brighter mid,  but the highs were a little less crisp than on the UE900. I did a little (same) tip comparisons because sound seems to change sometimes significantly with different tips. The 535 was all over the place but the UE900 stayed relatively the same. But again, I found that medium tip sealed better for me. That same tip, however, would likely not block much truck noise so I have to change up because the truck is where I need IEMs.
 
I mainly listen to R&B, Pop, Rap, and Hip-Hop where strong mids, strong bass, and energetic percussion is important. I listened to some Stephanie Mills yesterday and thought the UE900 was nicer ("clearer" sounding,  though less bassy,  than the 535). I then played some Earth Wind & Fire (with all the background singing, horns, and other instrumentation) and the 535 stepped up (and out) with the high energy big-boy sound and soundstage. I'll compare them with some Gino Vanelli next (among many others) before deciding whether to keep the UE900 or take it back.

Please said no to UE900 they had the WORST workmanship that i ever have encounter in my 8 years of audiophile only 3 months PAINT down! Sound is great but too bad workmanship SPOIL everything

I took the UE900 back to the Apple Store. In a quiet setting,  the UE900 has a slight timbre advantage over the 535. In the truck, the UE900 sounded weak and metallic (with little bass presence). If you don't drive an 18-wheeler (specifically a noisy Freightliner--we have Internationals that are only as noisy as a car) then ignore what I wrote about the UE900. It is a nice earphone.
 
Afterward, I went to Inmotion Entertainment at the airport to listen to the Limited Edition Red 535. It sounds the same (to me) tone-wise as my standard edition 535. If there was a difference, it was in the sound-stage and instrument placement therein. Playing Quincy Jones' Secret Garden, the cymbal was higher in the sound-stage than with my 535. I had to set the volume level higher to achieve the same output with the LE as my SE. My thinking is that the new cable with the phone mic on it was making the difference. I'm going to order one.

Also, if you like to crank it up and rock out,  DO NOT get the UE900.  It starts to distorts quite easily amped or unamped.  A weak and light presentation.  Really has no balls whatsoever.  Pathetic for a quad driver IMHO.  Not my cup of tea.
 
SE530 to SE535.....I think much more than a filter change as the soundstage is MUCH larger in addition to the treble being more extended.

I had the se535 bronze and found the roll off to be too evident. I then bought the se535ltdj and the roll off was gone. The reds are definitly worth the extrs price.
