Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones

Has someone successfully tested the KSE with AK SP1000 with the SP1000 amp ? For some reason this produce a very strange noise while the combo is perfect with other IEM and with full size Headphones ?!

Some kind of « incompability » between the SP1000 amp and the KSE Amp ??

without digging into the specs of each product... midnight here... i think that the KSA is behaving as IEM in terms of impendence and sensetivity and maybe hte SP1000 amp is designed for high Ohm HP, this is why you pick up hiss (noise).
I think there is no need to use the amp unit with the KSE.

Hands down Shure KSE1500 is the best IEM i have ever heard. If you got the budget just go for it. It'll just blow everything else out of the waters. Only thing that was slightly better than this was The Stax SR009 but that was connected to some extremely hi-end gear when I listened to it.

I'm testing KSE with the Astell SP2000 at the moment. On one hand Chord Hugo 2 was more impressive but at the same time it was always very seriously sounding. You listened with admiration but It lacked some fun element. With the KSE resolution and detail retrieval was insane, too much even and every listen was quite intense. SP2000 is quite neutral but in a organic and very natural way so it seems better fit with the KSE.

You are right. KSE1500 is is extremely revealing. It's insane how revealing it is compared to other IEMs. An analytical player/DAC will not be the best match.

I've tested Cowon Plenue S and I liked it a lot. It was very velvety and sweet sounding but not overly warm or dark. Great detail retrieval and focused. Kinda pricey though espacially that the soundstage was only ok. Not poor but smaller than Sony WM1A and Ibasso DX220 and waaaaay smaller than SP2000 and HUGO 2 espacially.

Hi Found the Calyx-M matched well with the KSE1500

Fit is horrible with these. Tips suck. These are just classic (or old and dated) Shure design with narrow bore tips, etc.. It's hard to get good sound with these due to fit, and what's also bad is the nozzle. It's too narrow to fit my other tips. I really dislike Shure tips.

I recall back in the days when Triple-Fi, Westone, and Shure were the big audiophile iems. These days, there are much better fitting iems then the classic Westone or Shure fit, which is just dated and just not as universal.

Also, I've done some reading here, and I think @iDesign made some points about preferring ER4. I see his points about the upper frequencies. Just look at the measurements, there's a big freakin crater in the treble area. No issue with bass however. I dislike ER4 bass or should I say hardly any bass.

That's Funny cause I thought it was one of the much better fits I have ever tried. Mind you have tried over hundred IEMs.

.... and with all do respect to the Calyx... nothing can beat this setup :
PC > Viablue USB > Intona USB Isolator > Neotech 1020 USB > Ec Designs MOSAIC UV DAC > WooAudio WA7 AMP > KSE1500 :):)

Details please ?

20200121_174848.jpg

This mod is based on Shure 846 mod.
I'm using the grey knowles filter (330).

Pic above is the steps of the process I've done.

1. Insert filter (grey 330) to tubing (tube from cotton buds)
2. Cut tubing exact length of the filter
3. Insert shrink tube then cut in same length. (Shrink tube added for exact bore size and Eliminate leak)
4. Insert filter to sleeve up to the tip of the sleeve (screen) (sleeve from yellow foam with screen) foam removed.
5. Add spacer (cut from old sleeve)
6. Choose tips of choice and preference. ( mine is cp100)
7. Enjoy

Benefits from mod:
Tighter mid bass and deeper sub bass
8-10kHZ treble peak tamed. No harshness this time while maitaining the detailed mids and highs.

Enjoy. Cheers!

NIce :) this MOD is good for big year holes, mine are very small :)
I also took the Yellow foam and cut only the foam and put it in the silicon sleeve - betwin the bore and the side, this got better seal and sound isolation.
Sory - no pics , did it 3 years ago.

I gave the KSE1500 a good listen last night through the Hugo (Green light on volume dial), line in. I don't feel it added a lot to the quality compared to the DAC in amp module. I played around with the input pads, with the assumption you are in the sweet spot for the amp if the volume is overall similar to the digital inputs. Overall the digital input sounds less processed to me. The extra analog stage wasn't worth it to use the superior Chord dac. Maybe I'll find a combo of input pads and volume setting that's better, but 0db/Green wasn't a huge win.
