I really want to try it, as I'm also a big fan of SRH840.

Listened to these yesterday at the Tokyo show and thought they were stunning.  And wow are they ever light.  HYPER COMFORTABLE.  I could actually imagine wearing these in the Japanese summer . . .

The fact that Jude thought they were a more comfortable version of the 1840 frame which I have used and really liked I am more than a little intrigued by these.

I had a modded Shure 840 that blew my pants off... would love to hear this ;O

this looks like a real winner from Shure.  and i'll probably pick up a pair of these...

I am somewhat a fanboy, and really appreciate Shures for what they do well --  a respectably grain-free sound for the dollar, and really superb stereo imaging.
the SRH1840 are really comfortable cans.
So, it stands to reason these 1540 will be quite comfy.

I know these won't play in the same league as the TH900 or W3000x or LCD-XC, but I think they will surprise some folks...

cheers,
The Wuss

what is it what makes these 500 bucks though?

are these higher quality drivers?

sorry im a bit new

$500 is about the price for a new w1000x, imo the price seems right

do not get me wrong, im not critisizing their pricing, its fine they are 500 and im sure they sound the part.

but would these have higher quality drivers than something like saaaaaaaaaay... the m100's? just for weird comparison

quality is a vague word, what do you define as quality?

screw the HE 400 TAKE A RISK and get these! If they are anything like my MOdded w1000x... I prefer my Modded w1000x over the HE 400 many times over. For me though, the HE 400 is mostly my Movie and EDM can at home. I'm not a HUGE fan of the tonal balance for movies BUT the bass and 3D imaging are excellent, and for purely music... I can only enjoy them with EDM and Hip Hop!

Some impressions from Mike of Headfonia http://www.headfonia.com/tokyo-headphone-festival-2013-autumn/4/. Not sure If I can trust him totally but I read and found out some impressions from him and Jude have few similarities and some parts could be hype such as the sound stage of Shure SRH 1540s is better than Shure SRH 1840s.
