Was having trouble finding a dissection photo for the Tape to modify so here it is.

I was quite certain this thing is glued in but after using the hair dryer for half an hour, it wasn't hot enough to melt the glue.

You see where this is going.

A little grinding and viola the centerpiece. At this point I do need to point out that this thing is mostly glued on.

Here's the back plate, everything is glued on and with the heat from the grinding, things began to fall apart by itself.

Not fully glued down, the image below shows where the glue stops. The black rubbery thing in the image above is a port.

That's it, the driver 94RA. From what I can tell it's 2 drivers facing each other. The tiny ports in the image above is where all the sound is coming out from. Which means it's now really tricky to do what I wanted in the first place.

The tips is screw on and glued together. The metal grille is just a metal grille. The mesh is mostly for dust/wax control, I removed it before dismantling and there wasn't any audible differences.

Big fail... Will need to add additional drivers to make it sound listenable. For now the V shape is incredible obvious, I will add the Knowles GV 32830 Quad BA into it and see how it goes. If you guys know how to play with Zobel network, please do share. Thanks

Hope this dissection series is useful to you.

Joined the club of Tapers, these tiny electrostatic buds are impressive. Let's see how long they last :beerchug:

Best of luck. Unfortunately mine lasted a whole seven days :triportsad: Volume, completely dropped off in the right driver.
The detail and clarity is outstanding though, really enjoyed them while they lasted. Personally the only downside I found were the mids being slightly thin, but the pros more than made up for it.

I did't try fix them myself, even though seems others have had some success, just couldn't accept that after a week.
I'm hoping these issues are resolved for a v2, and I'll happily purchase again.
Until then I said I'd give the Dunu dk 2001 a try.

Sorry to hear that lasted so little, if mine have problem I will ask replacement.
Agree with you about the mids, sound shape is clearly V, but not dramatic, enjoyable with almost everything.
Stax 001 are the opposite, mids are forward and prefer the stax for vocal music like opera, but need the dedicated amp with those.

I've been rockin' the Tapes for about a month now. No QC issues yet.

I noticed they took a really long time to fully burn in (100hrs).

I'm using them with the BGVP DM6 stock cable with Spiral Dot++ tops, running it through my Hiby R6 Pro on the reference tonality and on high gain.

These things are addictive. The more I listen to them the more I love them. They do something different from any other hybrid I've used. Hard to put my finger on it. Might be the electrostat driver.

Decent instrument seperation. Pretty wide soundstage.

Great bass, though not basshead level, it is well controlled.

Mids seem a bit recessed/thin but still have a ton of detail. I'd call them slight V shape sound. The presentation is very unique in this region for me.

Highs also very nice. They extend where they need to without being overly emphasized. I feel like they have some roll off on the upper highs.

Overall these are some of my favs at the moment.

I love the Tapes and they are habit forming...lol. I’m also a huge Shuoer H27 fan, They are 3 driver hybrid with 2 Knowles on each side and tuned perfectly for me. Balanced sound with excellent low end and more detail I think then the tapes.
I wish I had the money for the EJ07 I think, the $800+ model but will try Tri I3 next I think. Has anybody heard the Singer and love it?
